Nintendo Sales | Final Fantasy XII DS - Ruling Japan!

By Adam Riley 05.05.2007 10

Update - In the absence of Media Create numbers this week due to the Japanese holiday of Golden Week, we only have a Famitsu Top 10 All Format list, plus some leaked numbers courtesy of creamsugar over at NeoGAF. Check them out below:

1.) Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings (NDS, Square Enix) - 289,325 [ Out of a 450,000 initial shipment ]
2.) Super Paper Mario (Wii, Nintendo) - ~75,000 | ~225,000 in total
3.) Momotarou Densetsu DS: Tokyo & Japan (NDS, Hudson) - ~70,000
4.) Wii Sports (Wii, Nintendo) - ~50,000
5.) Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree (Wii, Nintendo) ~40,000 | NEW
6.) Gyakuten Saiban 4 (NDS, Capcom) - ~40,000 [ 500,000 units shipped so far ]
7.) One Piece Unlimited Adventure (Wii, Bandai Namco) - ~35,000 | NEW [ Sold Out! ]
8.) Panel de Pon DS (NDS, Nintendo) - ~30,000 | NEW
9.) Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2 (NDS, Nintendo) - ~30,000
10.) Wii Play (Wii, Nintendo) - ~30,000

The only new PlayStation 3 release of the week was Madden 07, which apparently only sold 500 copies...which is probably actually quite decent for an American Football game on a slow starting system in Japan!

As for hardware, early Famitsu estimates are:

1.) Nintendo DS Lite - 219,331
2.) Wii - 74,950
3.) PlayStation Portable - 31,368
4.) PlayStation 3 - 14,700
5.) PlayStation 2 - 13,040
6.) Xbox 360 - 3,530

Hopefully it will not be too long before Media Create updates with all the usual numbers we have grown to rely on.

Original Story - The latest first day sales data from Japan's new releases last Thursday are now in and Square Enix is definitely taking the lead with its Final Fantasy XII spin-off on DS, Revenant Wings as it has sold 180,000 units from its initial shipment of 450,000 copies. The game takes on a real-time strategy approach, akin to the recently release Heroes of Mana and features a wealth of FMV clips and some gorgeous music. Whilst fun and light-hearted, there are a few control issues and it has not been received extremely favourably by the Japanese otaku that snapped up the PlayStation 2's original Final Fantasy XII. However, it will easily break at least 500,000 and could be boosted by the impending Golden Week to eventually reach a million.

Elsewhere, Hudson's popular board-game title (other than Mario Party), Momotaro Densetsu, makes its d

Nintendo will dominating Japan! Smilie Woop Woop!

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

Another strong performance from DS, almost doubling an average week. Fony's sucked, almost completely.

It's ridiculous how Sony only had EA release Madden for PS3 that week...crazy. One of the most busy retail times! Smilie
