Nintendo News | No Pirates for Korea

By Jorge Ba-oh 05.05.2007 9

Pirates ahoy! The illegal pirating business in Korea could be jeopardised with Nintendo set to take action against those who provide dodgy software and hardware in the region.

"Nintendo will take strict legal action against businesses that are earning unfair profits by selling illegal copy machineries and downloading pirated programs." Piracy has always been a problem for publishers with illegally copied titles and hardware mods sold for a considerably cheaper amount over official solutions.

Nintendo Korea representative, Sung Hoo-jung said: "On the request of the Korea Game Industry Agency, Nintendo has entered Korea to help the Korean game industry grow into a profitable market. However, increasing software copies and illegal downloads have dampened profitability. This can hamper the development of the game industry."

Aww, but then I'll have no use for my Jolly Roger.Smilie

But no, that's good. Get most of those no good, pirating, thieving jerks off the high seas. Though they'll find another way probably, oh well.

I actually think this is a bad thing. Of course Nintendo are going to try and pull everyone's heart-strings by going "Poor us, they're stealing all the game industry's money, and the industry is doomed". In reality, the games industry is fucking booming, and is expanding quicker, and making more profit than ever. So yeah, I'm not gonna join the 'yay Nintendo' brigade on this one. Sorry folks.

Even so, Oni-Ninja, it is an illegal act, regardless of whether it's really hurting Nintendo and the industry or not.

It's a crime and people shouldn't be allowed to get away with it. Simple as that. Nintendo might be loaded with cash, but that shouldn't really change anything.

Well, it's a counter-weight. Keeps them on their toes, makes sure they can't just charge whatever money they want, in a way. It's illegal, but so is smoking cannabis. Should I be allowed to get away with smoking cannabis?

yeah, Oni maybe you're going to polarise people's opinions by telling everyone you're a stoner, but I think everyone agrees with you that some sort of compromise must be made between what is moral and what is practical and legal...

Well yeah, I just think there are many things which are illegal, which really, are harmless. Piracy of current formats is harmful to developers. Piracy of old, obsolete formats is not harmful. See the line I'm drawing there?

The major drawback of video game piracy is that in the end it's going to hurt the gamers. The more sales Nintendo gets, the bigger budgets they can use on thier games which usually (but not always) means a better game.

^^^ You know I am against piracy, but if all piracy suddenly stops, I doubt very much we will see cheaper games.

Deffinetly good news! Well done Nintey!

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562
