Nintendo Wii News | Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles Update

With Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition due out in Europe this June and Umbrella Chronicles set for later in 2007, details are still scarce regarding the latter title. However, a German magazine called Manic has uncovered some details.

First of all, whilst we have already seen the mansion scene from the game, it has been confirmed that the police station from Resident Evil II and the train from Resident Evil Zero will be included as levels. In fact, half of the game actually takes place in locations taken straight from other games in the series, leaving the rest to take you through Umbrella Corp's strongholds and enemy lairs.

In terms of characters on offer, Carlos Oliviera is now in the line-up, with Wesker also a definite, yet whether or not his role will merely be that of an NPC or if he will be playable was neither confirmed nor denied.

Using the Nunchuk controller and tilting it will allow movement of the camera to uncover hideen objects and power-ups, plus there will be familiar weapons on offer, such as the Rocket and Grenade Launcher.

Finally, although Resident Evil Zero, I, II and III will all be represented, levels will not be taken from Code Veronica.

Stick around for further updates...

Still unsure whether I'm particularly looking forward to this or not...

This will be the worst entrant to the series in years. Worse than the PS2 'Outbreak' exclusives. Resident Evil doesn't contain 'enemy lairs', it never has 'power ups', and it never ever has 'levels' Smilie

This is what happens to a classic series when they do a shite spin-off for Wii-owning casuals. Proper remakes of RE2 (in particular), and RE3 would have been awesome. But, we get this shit instead.

Umbrella Chronicles sounds terrible.

Read my plan:

Nobody buy UC when it comes out, and everybody buy the Resident Evil 4 Wii version.
That way Capcom will see what type of Resident Evil game we want.

They will develop a new game, and all will be well again.

Well I can dream can't I?

I can't help but agree with Oni.

the only way i'll buy this game is
if capcom makes it co-op
otherwise i can see the game getting very boring during single player

I'm not sure what to think really. I would have loved a new RE in the style of RE4, but I'm going to hold out for UC and see what it's like rather than judging it before I play it. It might turn out alright yet.

By the way, is the game on-rails, or can you move through the game freely? I think I heard it's the former.

On-rails, which is the biggest crime here.

Cubed3 Member

Well RE4 sorta had levels <.<

It wasn't totally free roaming was it now?

I do agree this sounds crummy though.

Cubed3 Member

I can't wait for these 2 games, i think they both will be awsome!

Cubed3 Member

Yeah, the rail-riding aspect is what's killing me. I can't even remember the last time I played a rail riding first person shooter. Oh yeah, Virtua Cop.

Cubed3 Member

It sounds good...but it's still on-rails. I really just cannot get over that part.

Cubed3 Member

They should rename it Resident Cop, or maybe Virtua Evil.

Cubed3 Member

I still have SOME hope for this game but it just sounds... crappier and crappier each time.

Cubed3 Member

Not really anything we didn't already know there... I assumed that Wesker would be in it since there were pictures of him back when the first scans appeared...

Either way it'll probably be pretty short and only good for a quick laugh, but at least it'll be better than every RE game before 4

The more I hear about this game, the more I like it. Sounds great. Don't know what kind of grumpy pills the rest of you are on.
