Nintendo Wii Speculation | Expect a (Metroid) Corrupt(ion) May?

By Adam Riley 11.05.2007 28

Quick News - If Matt Casamassina of IGN is to be believed, the week of 20th May should be noted if you are looking forward to Retro's Metroid Prime 3: Corruption on Wii.

Could the final release date be unveiled at long last? Stay tuned...

Will keep an eye out! Hopefully online multiplayer will be top of the agenda.

That's unexpected. EB Games (USA) has it 1st September. Would undoubtably be a massive boost for the sales of software.

Temporarily banned until further notice.

If only it where being released May!
Is there much infomation about the story yet?
Is there going to be an online multiplayer?

SO MANY QUESTIONS!

In that case, I'll just have to keep my eye on IGN.

Aw man! I want it to be soooooo much sooner! But, at least I won't have wait untill '08, if they're right.

Mr Casamassina was saying (if you actually listen to the podcast) that there will be NEWS of MP3 on that date, which is an event in itself, we may get a release date then, who knows?

Your right, that is what he said, not that the game itself would be released then, that would be ridiculously soon.

October still seems the most likely scenario. LS

Matt is not usually wrong. He has many many sources.

He knew about Nights and that Mario and Sonic at the Olympics games before they came out.
Thats good enough for me.

I am really looking forward to seeing how Metroid looks now. This game is the decider in which console I will get first (Wii or 360). I have high hopes for this game.

Argh!! I hate Matt and his teasing comments. I can't stand listening to the W-iik in review...it's always "expect news soon".

Hmm, my feelings are mixed on this, I think in terms of sales the game would benefit from online multiplayer, but unlike most FPSs, well, it isn't really an FPS, where the foucs is usually on multiplayer, the focus should definitely be on the single player.

However, if the single player is as good as ever, but they also come up with a good (or even very good) multiplayer option that is vastly superior to MP2's multiplayer, what is there to complain about?

If anyone counters with: it's not traditional/not true Metroid, I would counter: why should we care?

Awesome single player experience + awesome multiplayer experience = Halo 3 killer for Nintendo IF they can manage it. Why should we believe the single player option is going to suffer in any case?

I'll agree with the chap above, who has the worst username ever. The important thing about the Metroid games is the single player - if there is a good multiplayer, it will just be a bonus. However, Knighty wasn't saying that the multiplayer is important for the game - just that it isn't important for Nintendo, which though cynical is sadly probably true.

Screwing the rules since 1989.

Sept. Metroid
Oct. Smash Bros
Dec. Mario Galaxy.

I am getting wet just thinking about it.

That's a recipe for total domination of the market right there. LS

Throw in Mario Kart what else would you want in your life.

Because decent online multiplayer isn't an easy thing to get right. Retro isn't huge, and it would be very unlike Nintendo to outsource any to another team.

Multiplayer is irrelevent to Metroid, the mechanics do not suit it in the slightest.

Give me my genius majesty Metroid Prime single player and shove your rushed lame paint by numbers deathmatch mode with wifi supplemented lag hell up your bum.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Retro is Nintendo, Nintendo would happily throw resourses their way if needed.

This game will play more like a classic FPS, those advance control videos that were released a while back show a speed and accuracy close to that of a mouse and keyboard, even if not as good, but then that was a while back now so i hope it's been improved.

We simply do not know what Retro has in store for multiplayer online, but what they have said is that this game will play like a classic FPS, with that being the case implimenting a online multiplayer game of the kind we are all use to should not be too hard and is certainly workable.

Also the nunchuk allows for movement while targeting at speed unlike previous games in the series.

Some Metroid fans will not be happy about this slight transition, personally i think it makes sense because it possibly broadens the market for the game and increases the action.

While I liked Prime and navigating environments because there was a real sense of exploration, at the same time there were large areas of the game that were far too desolate for my liking, it could have done with more balance by way of action, so i am all for this change. LS

Good points (about the name, too, I chose it on the suggestion of a friend, I swear!) but I think Nintendo will want to increase the market for Metroid, since the last game only sold half a million, and that will include bringing in a multiplayer aspect (which could work well anyway 'cause of the PC-Keyboard-like controls), even Casamassina, who is not a fan of the idea of online multiplayer (I'm reserving judgment) says there's a good chance of it, and he has sources we don't.

I'd swap Smash and Galaxy around, since I think Galaxy has been in development longer, plus they'll probably want to deliver the Christmas death-blow with Brawl, considering Melee was the biggest-selling Cube title.

Could be, could be.

Balladeer you don't understand my point..

I don't want multiplayer at all. I HATE MPH with a burning passion. Metroid doesn't work in multiplayer, and we can see what a horrific detrimental effect it had on the SP in Hunters.

What does the control scheme have to do with it not being a traditional FPS? Metroid is shit in multiplayer because it's not a multiplayer game. The MP2 multiplayer was just awful, you all play as a different coloured Samus for some reason, and all the weapons are basically the same, apart from the damage they inflict. It was basically a case of who could get to the Super Missiles or the Death Ball first.

The Hunters multiplayer wasn't quite as bad, but it still seemed to end up just being a case of who could run up and get the best weapon before anyone else. Plus all the characters were basically the same too...

Unless you don't play as Samus at all in the multiplayer I have no reason to believe it'll be any different from the past two attempts, and while there do seem to be more of the Federation Troopers around in the singler player I still doubt you'll be playing as them. Hopefully it just won't be there at all...

Smilie ooo lets hope he is right... coz its been way too long since we heard about this game! Smilie

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

No, I didn't, and apologise. And while I can see your point, I can't see why you should have anything against multiplayer, as long as it is not to the detriment of the single-player game. And it's not like they would completely ruin that...

Linkyshinks said:

Oh.

Screwing the rules since 1989.

Of course it will be to the detriment of the SP. Hunters is proof of that. They're going for the FPS crowd, and that's sad because I feel like there's going to be a huge lack of puzzles.

I think they will try to go for a bit more balance between shoot outs and puzzling, that would certainly be the best scenario for the title.

In doing so they applease the loyal fans while bringing others new in.

From what I've seen at E3, the single player is going to be amazing. A bit less Metroidy I admit, but they changed the aspects of the game that were pulling it down. I have faith in retro. I am not too concerned about the multiplayer, its the single player that sets the game apart. That Ridley boss fight looked very fun.
