Nintendo DS Interview | Square Enix on Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings

By Adam Riley 15.05.2007 6

Finishing off the mass of interviews from Square Enix, the company recently discussed its exclusive Nintendo DS version of Final Fantasy XII. Interviewed on the Real Time Strategy spin-off game were Producer Eisuke Yokoyama and Writer / Director Motomu Toriyama, both of which stated the old light-hearted feel of the Final Fantasy games inspired the direction XII on DS has taken, but keeping enough of a draw for fans of the PS2 game and encouraging new gamers into the fold as well.

Touched upon was how, just like Matrix Software dealt with Final Fantasy III's remake, Think and Feel was brough on-board for Revenant Wings due to its experience in the portable RTS field with games from the team appearing on the GBA in the past. As for how duties were handed out, the scenario and graphics were a joint effort between Think and Feel and Square Enix, with the stronger side taking control when issues arose.

Toriyama-san was quizzed about his involvement in another spin-off, Final Fantasy X-2, to which he replied he prefers light-hearted adventures, dealing with the scenario when conflict has already been resolved, after the main adventure has taken place. He wrapped up by stating the US audience should take to Revenant Wings due to its high levels of freedom in the gameplay.

Does anyone agree that the following words are well SE;
Final Fantasy
Dragon Quest &
Spin-off

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

i agree... i reckon SE should take the Wii more seriously... but oh well i guess Nintendo have to show them how... after Ninty's big guns come out the whole industry will lean how to make REAL games

No, I do not agree.
I would rather say :

Final Fantasy remakes
Final Fantasy spin-offs
Dragon Quest spin-offs
Future Dragon Quest remakes

Does anyone know how many FF games have been made???

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

I think in time SE will make games for the Wii. It has taken them a while to make games for the DS. The reason could be that a lot of people own a DS. After a while, when more Wii's r sold, maybe they will bring out games.
Who know!! Smilie

Yeah it took them a while to make a game for the DS. The Wii hasn't even been out for a year yet...I think all the DS love by Squenix spoiled us so we're all screaming for Wii games.
