Nintendo Rumour | Smash Bros and Metroid Prime Wii Press Event

Quick News: We're filing this one under 'rumour' for now. According to a poster over at neoGAF, Nintendo will be holding a 'media summit' (read: press event) on May 22nd and May 23rd. Apparently we can expect some third party stuff along with loads of Nintendo goodness. News should start coming in at 6pm PST on the 22nd. We'd put money on it being related to Smash Bros Brawl and Metroid Prime: Corruption. Time will tell.

That's a bit of a misleading title really. Makes it sounds as if MP3 and SSBB info is definatly being disclosed.

I mean, it's really likely its gonna be, but anyways.

This would tie in with Matt-of-IGN's hints in recent blogs/podcasts, fingers crossed then.

Anyone who reads the IGN mailbag can go on neogaf and become an industry insider these days.

Ah, but I don't read IGN because it makes my eyes bleed Smilie

Trying to think of a witty signature after 'Hacker-gate'...

I did until they stopped updating their Dreamcast feature. There's no other reason to go on there other than to laugh when they completely don't get some of the best games ever.

I actually use IGN mainly for quick TV/Comics news, rather than games stuff.

Yeh, they gave the NES game ExciteBike an 8.4 when it came out on the VC. Fuck sake. The only NES game that you can still play for more than 2 mins now is Kirby's Adventure.

They're going to be telling us that both these games got pushed to 2008 Smilie

ooo lets hope it turns out to be true!! Smilie

Here's something interesting - just click here, and then scroll down to a poster named RawkHawk. He's posted a bit of an interview - courtesy of Famitsu, he says - where Miyamoto divulges information on a new game in development at Intelligent Systems - KumaSquirrel.

I'm assuming that's just a codename. But why haven't I seen reports of this elsewhere? Is this a fake, perhaps?

If it's real, then this media thing might reveal some stuff on this, too.Smilie

I sure hope so. I want to see what the graphical overhaul for MP3 looks like and some more general info on SSBB.

I'd love to see some on SSBB, but this doesn't sound too likely IMO...

I don't get why everyone thinks MP3 & SSBB news is on the way, I never saw it coming, I don't see it coming for a whiiile.

Oh, & I never go on IGN. Far too mainstream for my liking.

Really hoping for some decent new levels/in-game material from SSBB - as well as some kinda date/month to settle our eager minds.

Some more information on that powerful duo is long overdue. Hopefully we'll get good stuff like characters and stages.

Information on how the online play is going to work would be very nice as well.

I don't get why everyone thinks MP3 & SSBB news is on the way,

We know we're in for some smash news very soon because the website is being overhauled - a countdown to the new version began three days ago and has 4 days left.

Putting this in context, Sakurai has said basically that he only writes on the Webpage when for major events or to bring important news. He's not lying either: Since last E3 he has posted one message only, for the Wii launch... he also put a bit of media on the site when Fox was announced.

One of his rare messages would be enough to get excited about, but this is more than a message - the entire site is being updated and there is a countdown. Big smash news is coming, there's no doubt about it Smilie

True, but saying to me that there's "big SSB news coming!" is exactly like saying there's an exciting new piece of news in the next issue of Rambling Weekly.. I just don't give a fuck. Different strokes though, mind. You all enjoy your terribly crude and simplistic little beat-em up now, won't you? I'll stick with Virtua Fighter 5 and Street Fighter III Smilie

Smash is awesome in that way. It starts off simple (well as soon as you learn to come back to the stage with a jump and an up-B), but it rewards you for years and years with complex strategy and unbelievable attention to detail. Its one of those things thats easy to learn, but very difficult to master, and at no point can you really imagine how far the learning curve goes on Smilie

You do that Oni, in the mean time we'll be having fun while your trying to remember painfully complicated and annoying button mashing combos. Smilie

edit: star for the Duffman, exactly how I feel.

Smash is in no way that Oni, everyone who plays it loves it, & is addicted to get far better. In multiplayer it's incredible, & IMO better than any fighter out there, especially 4 player.

It's so different, & in no way simplistic. There are millions of different levels of strength, & the game pace is something too fast for Virtua Fighter 5 to even imagine.

Smilie I rather bonk of Gordon Brown than play the painfully boring beatem' ups such as VF.

I can understand SFIII not being for the faint-of-heart, but VF5? It's only got three buttons. It's not complex. What VF5 has is something called depth.

Smash Bros. has good depth too. I'll be honest in that Smash is a more laid back fighter, but man it is just so much fun. Get a bunch of friends together and you'll all be rolling with laughter for the rest of the night.
