Nintendo Wii News | Metroid Prime 3 Corruption - Details and New Screens

By James Temperton 22.05.2007 39

Apologies for our laziness, but we're just going to go ahead and paste in the details straight from Nintendo for you to read through below. Or, you can ignore all the nasty words and skip straight down to the new screens below.

If you think you knew what it felt like to be the bounty hunter behind the visor, think again. Take aim at evil with Nintendo's revolutionary controller.

  • Players control Samus by moving with the Nunchuk controller and aiming with the pointer, allowing for a level of immersion unlike anything they have ever experienced. Through the eyes of Samus, players experience a quantum leap in first-person control as they wield the Wii Remote controller, the ultimate device for the first-person shooter genre.

  • Samus will employ well-known power-ups like the Grapple Beam and Morph Ball, as well as a bunch of new surprises, to help her survive her coming trials.

Game storyline: Six months have passed since the events on the planet Aether. The Galactic Federation's network computer, Aurora Unit, is suddenly and completely corrupted with something like a virus. The Federation believes Space Pirates may be behind the problem and, beginning with Samus, starts to contact bounty hunters. As they explain the situation to the assembled hunters, the Federation is attacked by the pirates. Samus and the other hunters leap to the defense of the Federation capital, only to find that the enemy the hunters face is the presumed-dead Dark Samus. Dark Samus is armed with immense power that no one can withstand. It soon becomes obvious that the forces controlling Dark Samus and the terror of the contaminated Phazon are a dire threat that could corrupt the entire universe.

Characters: Samus, Dark Samus, the Galactic Federation and new bounty hunters.

How to progress through the game: The war initiated by Dark Samus and the Space Pirates rages across many planets as they attempt to corrupt each with Phazon seeds. Players use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers to explore alien landscapes, hunt for weapons and information, and destroy the seeds. Saving the planets from corruption isn't enough, though. Eventually, players must take down Samus' mortal enemy, Dark Samus.

Special powers/weapons/moves/features: Using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers, players will be able to grasp and pull things by using actual arm movements, as well as execute amazing feats like aiming and blasting in midair or at a full run. The game also incorporates a new system involving Phazon. If you fill Samus' Phazon supply to a certain level, Samus will temporarily go into hyper mode, a state in which she can pull off incredible feats; on the flip side, if she exceeds the maximum Phazon level, she'll perish. Also, for the first time in the Metroid series, Samus' ship will be used in active game play.

Well, for 'players' on the Nintendo press site it says '1' right now...

Trying to think of a witty signature after 'Hacker-gate'...

Sweet!!!...this is one of the games I was waiting on to see if I would try and find a Wii to buy. Party and mini games are all fine and good. But I need my hardcore games and this one I hope will be real great.

Cool, can't wait for it. Although the graphics have seemed to have gotten worse since E3.

Wait a sec...apart from the new logo those other pics are all old. Why lie to us... wait till you get new pics or vids from the conference going on now and post those.

Erm, actually, they are new. If going by the title of the item on the press site: 5 New Metroid Prime 3 Corruption Screenshots and Logo. So you would be wrong.

Trying to think of a witty signature after 'Hacker-gate'...

Any fool can see those pics are old.. We have seen those since last yr. The only thing new there is the new LOGO.

GAH! IT BETTER have online play god damn them they've delayed it so much it just better have it!!!

Having control of the ship will be great touch. LS

No, they are new... just pics of things we've already seen.

Man, I am loving that logo! Though not yet complained about yet here, I don't see what everyone's beef is with Samus working with others this time around. If you ask me, makes it more realistic, seeing as she's always worked for the Federation and all.

I also don't see how these graphics are bad, they look great!

Samus has always worked alone, working with others would badly slow her down... It seems loads of people have no idea just what Samus is capable of, or you do, but don't realise just how much. Samus doesn't need any help, she never has, & it's just more ways of making the series seem more mainstream, with cool new characters. I swear Nintendo are going to turn Metroid into the new Mario or Sonic. I don't like to be honest.

I also don't get why Dark Samus is so popular, I'd much rather call it "The Metroid Prime in a suit", apart from that, it's just like every other game series ever, Shadow, Shadow Mario, Dark Link... ugh, why do Nintendo feel they have to make Metroid appeal to the masses by having cool characters in it?

*I need to calm down* I think there should be less anthromorphic aliens & more creepy ones. Doesn't look like this game lacks in the creepy alien section, so at least it's on the right track of something...

Hey, we all have to deal with people slowing us down sometimes, this is just Samus' turn. Besides, working along side the federation, the ones who hire her, and other bounty hunters just remindes you of that she truely is... a bounty hunter.

I had something else to say about this, I just can't remember nowSmilie...

I don't mind the new charchters, last year we saw some ice bounty hunter save samus when she was falling down the pit with ridly then he said somthin and buggered off.
I never really enjoyed Metroid prime 1 because i felt it was too lonely, i like the charchter interaction with the aliens in the second, so i'm looking forward to a few more cut scenes with charchters and such. Just as long as they dont go overboard.

Well, I admit I liked having Samus talk & that on Metroid Fusion, but it was very much a lonely atmosphere, & that's what I liked about it...

& I've never thought of Samus as much of a Bounty Hunter, as Bounty Hunters do deeds for money, any deeds. Samus is a bit different from that, don't you think?

    Twitter | C3 Writer/Moderator | Backloggery

No, well, I don't think she's too different. She does all the missions from previous games for the federation. I mean sure, she'll go out and do her own thing every once and a while(MP1, Fusion), bounty hunters don't always have to go do paid missions, but she has done mostly paid missions. I don't know, that's just me.

Imagine how utterly utterly dire that must sound to somone nw to metroid.Smilie

The screens are too small to be able to judge the visuals fairly. I think it'll look great though.Smilie

I love the new logo. Much improved. Smilie

They're about the right resolution, if you scale them up they look worse.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

They should just take some high def ones like the Red Steel ones so we all get fooled into thinking it will actually look good.

Well it looks pretty respectable for a wii game and it should look better in motion.
I just hope the release date in europe isn't to far after the US one.

    1. Graphics whoreSmilie
    2. These shots are too dark to fucking judge anything, and it's rather annoying to me. Was hoping for some clear shots to see how the game was turning out graphically, but oh well, guess I'll have to wait a bit longer.

And Knighty, it's Metroid Prime, you KNOW you'll love it eventuallySmilie

    ~Getting on C3's massive tits since 2K5.~

Yes, it looks much better at 60 FPS than 0 FPS

So is that confirmation that the game will run at 60FPS? Smilie

I think it looks decent, not great, but these screens obviously don't do the game justice. I'll wait until I see some new videos or some better images to judge the graphics.
