Nintendo News | Square Enix Exclusive DS RPG Confirmed for Europe

By Adam Riley 14.06.2007 7

After lots of speculation following a listing on a European ratings website, Square Enix has given Cubed3 the scoop on the official announcement for Heroes of Mana in Europe. Below is the Press Release that will be circulated later today:

Square Enix Ltd., the publisher of Square Enix interactive entertainment products in Europe and other PAL territories, today announces the forthcoming release of HEROES of MANA on the Nintendo DS system for Autumn 2007.

Developed exclusively for Nintendo DS, HEROES of MANA breathes new life into the WORLD of MANA series by taking it into the completely new realm of real-time strategy. Stylus-wielding generals must plan, plot and employ strategy to ensure victory on the battlefield. Utilising the Touch Screen to the fullest, players take full control of the battle as they gather resources, assemble armies and experience an all-new perspective on the ever-evolving battle for the world of MANA,

"We're very excited to be bringing HEROES of MANA to Europe," says John Yamamoto, President and CEO of Square Enix Ltd. "The MANA series has long been adored by fans around the world. HEROES of MANA offers a fantastically fresh new approach, with the addition of real-time strategy that makes battles even more thrilling than before."

The Story
Roget, a soldier of Pedda, is on a reconnaissance mission to Ferolia with his companions, when their aircraft is shot down by the enemy and abandoned by their carrier. The crew comes to realise that the mission was a plot by their own superiors to eliminate them, with the invasion of Ferolia being only the first step towards Pedda's domination of the world. Witnessing the atrocities committed by the Peddan army, Roget and his crewmates are forced to fight against their own countrymen.

Well clearly people aren't that interested...but I've played the Japanese game and the criticism levelled at the game is extremely unfair. It's a really good real-time strategy game! Smilie

To be fair, if you're going to get one of the 26 identical Squenix games that come out every 6 hours, you're not going to get one from the butchered Mana series.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

This sounds really awesome from the previews I've read.

Wasnt this game on GBA or was it a similiar one?!?!

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

Sword of Mana is the one on the GBA, which is a remake of the first game, Seiken Densetsu / Final Fantasy Adventure: Mystic Quest on the SNES Smilie

This is an RTS with RPG elements mixed in...

It's going for that much? I'll have to dig out my pristine copy then and flog it!! Smilie

I seriously hope HoM does better for S-E than Chocobo Tales has done so far...
