    Miyamoto Lecture
    The great mans words...translated!

    Update
Now we have been through the full translation we can reveal that Nintendo have rather surreptitiously announced some new games for the GameCube.

    Roughly translated, they read:
  • Groudon
  • Hundred Ogre Knight: Travelling
  • Shinkorogu
  • Thousand Year Family
  • Donkey Kong

The trademark application for the Donkey Kong game is arguably the most intriguing of these given it was made on March 10 this year. Does this illustrate where Nintendo is up to with development of its next instalment? As to what Thousand Year Family and Hundred Ogre: Knight are remains to be seen.

We’ll bring you updates as soon as we know more.

  • On July 3rd Shigeru Miyamoto held a lecture at Tokyo University about working in the video game industry. Below we have a section of the transcript, and a link to the full lecture.

Student: Do you think games are something for children to play?

Shigeru Miyamoto: No; I think games are something for all ages. From five to ninety-five, is what I say. Of course, if you pass 95, then you can still play if you want, but... (laughs)

Instructor: With that in mind, the fact that Mario can sell across all ages and all countries is fairly important, I think.

Shigeru Miyamoto: I just want to make games that make high-school girls happy. And high-school boys, too.

Instructor: Pikmin did pretty well, didn't it?

Shigeru Miyamoto: Yeah, it did, but it kind of went down like this. Pikmin 2 will come out this year, though, and I think interest will shoot back up. I've already got the basic idea for Pikmin 3 in my mind.

It is always very interesting to see what Miyamoto is thinking about gaming in general. He is not just a great creator but also a very kind man, and on all the occasions we have had the pleasure to see him he is kind, generous and has a great deal of knowledge. We have got the full lecture for you to enjoy, so click here for more!
