Nintendo News | Wii Breaks Aussie Record, Super Paper Mario Dated

By Adam Riley 21.06.2007 9

The Wii has already proven to be a massive success in Australia, but now it has broken a new record. In addition to this, Super Paper Mario has finally been given a release month. After securing, and holding, the Australian record for the biggest launch of a video game system in history, Wii has now officially broken through the 100,000 install-base mark in Australia in the fastest ever time for a home console.

"We are pleased that Wii has achieved this benchmark, but we are ecstatic that it attained this whilst also reaching new audiences and expanding the scope of our entire industry. We promised we would bring gaming to the masses, I think this is proof that we are heading in the right direction.

"Wii Sports is still performing very well as a primary vehicle to encourage non-gamers towards trying out the Wii experience".

- Rose Lappin, Director of Sales and Marketing.

This success was recently topped off when the system's first Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection title, Mario Strikers Charged Football, hit No.1 on the All Formats chart in its first week on sale. As for other forthcoming games, here are just some of the ones mentioned by Nintendo Australia in its Press Release:

  • Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition (Capcom) - 5th July
  • Mario Party 8 - 19th July
  • Super Paper Mario - September
  • PANGYA! Golf with Style - September
Hopefully this means that it will not be long before Nintendo Europe reveals when Super Paper Mario will hit here. With any luck it will be an August date...

Wow... that's insanely late! :-/

So I'm guessing the Europe release will be around the same time...

Maybe Nintendo are trying to think of ways to make more money; by taking the Square Enix approach to localising games Smilie

I reckon it will be a few weeks before here, possibly as much as a month. August seems like the perfect time to release the game when you look at the release schedule. [LS]FinallySmilie

Finally!!!

I'd love to know how game release dates are chosen. This wierdness smacks of corporate strategy rather than localisation difficulties.

"This man has advanced communist views ... He dresses in a bohemian fashion both at his office and in his leisure hours."

WOW just a 100.000 that is pretty low! BUt i guess high for Aussie land!

Anyway talking about Paper Mario yeah like the most of you i think it will come out here a few weeks earlier, probaby mod August!!

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

I have a few friends who say they have Wii's. But only one has swapped Wii codes. But I've never actually seen another Wii other then my own.
Perhaps the Wii is only selling well in Australia?Smilie

CVG date Super Paper Mario as 14th September. LinkSmilie
