The Wii has already proven to be a massive success in Australia, but now it has broken a new record. In addition to this, Super Paper Mario has finally been given a release month. After securing, and holding, the Australian record for the biggest launch of a video game system in history, Wii has now officially broken through the 100,000 install-base mark in Australia in the fastest ever time for a home console.
"We are pleased that Wii has achieved this benchmark, but we are ecstatic that it attained this whilst also reaching new audiences and expanding the scope of our entire industry. We promised we would bring gaming to the masses, I think this is proof that we are heading in the right direction.
"Wii Sports is still performing very well as a primary vehicle to encourage non-gamers towards trying out the Wii experience".
- Rose Lappin, Director of Sales and Marketing.
This success was recently topped off when the system's first Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection title, Mario Strikers Charged Football, hit No.1 on the All Formats chart in its first week on sale. As for other forthcoming games, here are just some of the ones mentioned by Nintendo Australia in its Press Release:
- Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition (Capcom) - 5th July
- Mario Party 8 - 19th July
- Super Paper Mario - September
