Nintendo News | Bandai Namco, Capcom & Sega Focus on Wii/DS, not PS3

By Adam Riley 25.06.2007 26

Quick News - It is being reported that Bandai Namco, Sega and Capcom will all be turning their focus to Nintendo's Wii & DS rather than PSP and PS3 due to disappointing sales of Sony's platforms. The report on Nikkei states the companies are rapidly shifting sides.

Stick around for further updates...

More original titles then please.

- Soul Calibur Legends
- Mario & Sonic at the Olympics / Sonic RPG / Ghost Squad
- Zack & Wiki / Umbrella Chronicles

Not bad so far, but it'll be great to see what they come up with next. Hopefully this means we'll see a proper Ridge Racer on Wii as well.

I guess a regular boring driving sim is essential really.Smilie

Maybe they can spice it up.Smilie

I would like to see a Point Blank rather than Ridgeracer which is now a tired title. [LS]

Well, they did hint at Point Blank in the interview I did with them back when the DS game hit late last year...so fingers crossed! The team reckon there's still an audience for the game, but Atari just failed to promote the title in Europe sufficiently.

Good to see more support, hopefully this will mean more quality titles.

This makes you wonder who the big Japanese company is then that stated it would only give Wii half-hearted games. Most presumed it would be Bandai Namco...and surely it can't be Konami since they've done Elebits, Dewy and are bringing Pro Ev.

Who else could it be, since it's also not S-E? Hmm...

My votes on THQ, can't think of any others.Smilie

Bull

Shit!

If it's true, then this is excellent news, SEGA & Bandai Namco are excellent 3rd parties, so I'm really hoping to see some really good original games from them! Bring on E3!

Damn, getting excited again. This time last year I never thought I'd get excited for E3 ever again.

Developers will follow the platforms that will be more profitable, development cost for both Wii and DS are considerably cheaper than Sony's, also looking at the hardaware sales they are eager to capitalize on Nintendo's success in the market.

"My votes on THQ, can't think of any others"

It is a bit of a mystery. When I saw the title of this thread I connected my thoughts to that other thread. It has to be THQ, and if that is the case we will hardly be missing much. Namco on the other hand do have titles that could make the transition to Wii well. [LS]

I'll be missing a decent wrestling title, thats for sure.

Didn't THQ recently say they wanted to try a more mature approach to the Wii? In any case, I'm very glad it's not Namco or SEGA, I love them. Smilie

Is THQ a Japanese company? I didn't know that Smilie so if it was them, it wouldn't really be much different to GC.

Though I still think it's Capcom. Smilie

Its a tough one. THQ could be genuinely trying a mature approach, but whats stopping them making a complete hash of it, and selling to the target audience regardless?Smilie

You must take into thought (Was that even proper english?), that these stategic-focus-business-things are kind of long-term decisions. So we don't see results right now with new titles being presented, but with new titles taken into consideration, thought of, made design of and being talked about later this year and maybe even next year. Remember how long it took for PS1 to take over the SNES-N64-crown...

But I hope they deliver more original content and core games as Darkspine wanted. Soulcalibur, Sonic, Umbrella... these are good starts, even now, and some great games (if only a few) were released on Cube as well...

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

I want somekind of megaman 3rd person game, with the remote acting as his arm cannon.Smilie

That should be rephased, Namco are bollocks and SEGA aren't much better.

Why do you dislike CAPCOM, they are the best third party Japanese publisher/developer by a country mile no one comes close to them.

Really?? Well then they need to stop shitting shitty games on us if they want to be successful.

You can hardly blame them. Remember the Capcom 5? look what happened with that. They're testing the waters this time, instead of just diving right in.

Sure Capcom make good games, but so do Namco & SEGA. You know what Capcom also do? Cheap cash ins with the Megaman title on the front. You know what else they do? Bum the shit out of Sony & give Sony all their games. & go back on their word for GC exclusives.

Capcom promised the GC 4 exclusives or something. That in itself is almost nothing. In the end GC only got ONE of those promised exclusives. Resi Evil Zero. Smilie

SEGA have stood by Nintendo a lot, they support Nintendo even towards the end of the GC's life, for that I'm grateful. Namco make really good games & I'm glad to have them on Nintendo's side for once. Who knows? We may see a Tales of game or even SCIV (but I doubt SCIV...) Smilie

Capcom isn't what it used to be anymore. Anyway I don't want to see empty promises, I'll believe them when I see official announcements of good games.

I am sorry i have problems with stating that Namco and SEGA make good games, both are terrible games developers, SEGA have went down the bog, quicker than a big smelly shite.

SuperLink said:

They are MegaMan sluts, and are starting to use Pheonix Wright a bit too much as well, however they are probably they aren't as bad as Namco-Bandai, for god sake it called Bandai, they make toys, they get all their money from toys. SEGA are whores as well, Charlotte's Web movie tie in and not to mention the Mario & Sonic Olympics, they are just leaching of Mario's / Nintendo's success. Every developer does this, look at Nintendo with Mario Party's, but CAPCOM aren't as bad as the other big publishers.

SuperLink said:

So do SEGA, they have so much more games for the PSP in development than DS, albeit that is supposedly changing. As for Namco, SC4 an PS2 exclusive, they must of forgot the GCN version trounced the other versions sales and the fact it was most suited to the GCN controller.

I was like that as well SuperLink i hated CAPCOM for that, but then i thought who cares, they are a business, more people got to experience how great Resi 4 was.

Did they really? They didn't did they? Just a punch of terrible Sonic games and Sonic Spin-offs, and ooh and Monkey Ball, oh joy Smilie. Apart from EA, Activision, THQ all the big dogs, CAPCOM was the most supportive Japanese publisher of the GameCube.

I still think it might be Koei, as Grumbler suggested previously.

Hopefully CAPCOM will actually announce some games at some point...

Still a proud member of the 'omfg amazing water in games' society

Well, it does say Capcom are shifting more towards Wii & DS, if they make more proper original games then cool. Also I hope that if we get Megaman titles, that they're good proper Megaman & not cheap Megalan cash ins...

If Capcom make more Phoenix Wright & release more cool games then I'll love them forever. Actually, I don't know what I like about Capcom other than Phoenix Wright & Viewtiful Joe... but it seems VJ is no more Smilie

Yeah if this turns out ot be true it will be amazing, but somehow i doubt these companies will be ignoring the PS3 or PSP...

anyway i want TEKKEN BOWLING Smilie Smilie That would be awsome Smilie I loved the game on Tekken Tag Smilie

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562
