By Adam Riley 26.06.2007 27

Quick News - Amidst denials of a Killer Instinct and Jet Force Gemini sequel in Rare's latest Scribes mailbag, there is a response to a reader's suggestion of putting Donkey Kong 64 onto Nintendo DS: "Conversion of DK64: who knows what will happen?"

Would it happen or is Perfect Dark more likely? Share your thoughts inside...

It would be incredible, Donkey Kong 64 was one of those Expansion pack games wasn't it? I'd probably buy it.

The funny thing is, I wouldn't be surprised. Rare do love their remakes, the whole Donkey Kong Country series on GBA, & Diddy Kong Racing on DS. I don't see why not at all.

I guess we'll see at E3. It would be nice wouldn't it?

It would be a downgrade. No thanks.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

well I do already have the 64 version...

We already have the 64 version, damn sweet game, hard though. A DS version would be likely, and would probably sell fairly well. Would be nice to see a fresh take though..

DK64 will arrive on the VC eventually, I think I would prefer that than playing a game that played like Super Mario 64 DS did. [LS]

Actually yeah, unless the DS version has some killar extras, I agree.

I'm not a fan of these funny N64 port ideas. And if I was, DK64 would be last on my list.

However - IMPORTANT SUB-POINT - artmonkey got into Scribes. *beams* Just a snippet line near the end, mind, but my life is one step closer to completeness.

Less posty, more gamey.

Still, it's portable if it came on the DS. I quite enjoyed DK64, if it ever came out, I would definitely get it. Hopefully it will contain extras, direct ports are baddddd.

Extras like:

-no texture filtering
-inaccurate geometry rendering
-worse textures
-rubbish controls

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

I thought Mario 64 actually played pretty well on the DS. I loved DK:64, awesome game. Never finished it though, that last boss was a bastard.

Personally, I think this could kick some major ass. DK64 was an ace game to begin with. Lots of good times with that classic. lol

I LOVED SM64DS! I never had any trouble with the controls and I thought they worked pretty damn well. The game itself was vastly superior to the original, imho. Smilie

Chance favors the prepared mind.

I don't have any problem with playing 3D games with a D-Pad, they usually work fine. The only problems would be how the graphics would look, or if they had to cut some things out for the DS' hardware.

Even the N64 controller didn't have enough buttons for DK64. There were loads of ridiculous combinations for using different abilities and getting guns out and stuff. That pretty much condemns the touch screen to menus etc. Really, what's the point? Just get the original, it's not even that good a game compared to the Banjo games, Conker and Mario 64.

I've heard it was quite a good platformer... & I'm more likely to buy it than all the DKC sequels they released.

Still, I probably wouldn't get it anyway. DK isn't my series, maybe if it arrives on VC someday, but unless the DS version gets awesome reviews, then prolly no.

DK64 = Banjo Kazooie with far inferior jokes and crap characters

I completed it, it was alright where the Rareness managed to seep through the sterile DKness.

Superlink has just gone to bed so I'll just post this for him: Liar , Liar pants on fire! Psht, DK PWNZ BK! x3!

Smilie

I don't think I'd buy it if it came out on DS. I've never played the original, and I don't feel as if I'm missing out. At all. Or I could buy it, play it, and if it's crap, trade it in the next day. I think I'll just do thatSmilie

(PS: No need to thank me, JSmilie)

~Getting on C3's massive tits since 2K5.~

i hope it came out on both, like i sent scribes a email asking that and yeah i haven't checked back, but man i would get this on VC and DS i loved this game it was my 2nd favorite on N64 with OoT being my favorite!!

They'd have to bundle it with a thumb strap. I can't emagine DK64 with a D-pad.

Banjooooo!!! That one should come back. But unfortunately the 360 has already snabbed this one. But then again I'm also buying that one soon, so I'l get it anyway...

Ino Faust, did you submit this as a News Alert? If so, apologies, I didn't see it! Smilie

DK64 was very much a 'go collect everything' game, which bored the hell out of me. It's probably the only Rare game from the N64 that I thought was 'average'.

It's already proved difficult to port averagely demanding Nintendo 64 games to the DS so why attempt to port one of the most taxing? I think Grumbler summed it all up with his first post.

Actually, I think he just meant me... for posting that for me.... even though I didn't say that ^^;

& Banjo Kazooie does pwn DK, into 1980.

I would be absolutely gagging for a DK64 DS remake along the same lines as what happened to Mario 64 on the DS.

DK64 was defintely a marmite game, you either loved it or hated it. I fucked adored it, though i couldn't beat the last boss.

I would love to see this getting "enhcanced remake" treatment.

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

Who knows, maybe Luigi, Wario & Yoshi will be playable this time Smilie

I wouldn't be surprised to see Cranky or something as an extra (though I havn't played the game, & knowing Rare, Cranky may have been playable in the original anyway... was he?)

If they'd handle this like they remade DKR, Rare can damn-well forget it!Smilie
