Nintendo Wii News | Star Wars Light-Saber Game Closer to Reality?

By Adam Riley 28.06.2007 11

The eternal rumour that has been floating around since the Wii controller was first unveiled has reared its head again thanks to talk from LucasArts. Speaking recently and in answer to a question about a possible Wii light-sabre game, Jim Ward, President of LucasArts and a Senior Vice President at Lucasfilm, was stated as saying: "We're all over that, and internally we have already played a lightsaber game on the Wii. It's a lot of fun, and we'll get there."

He continued by mentioning how the concept of a title using a lightsaber on Nintendo Wii was "...in place! There'll be some stuff out this Fall - it's going to be a lot of fun."

But could he merely be talking about Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, which will indeed include motion controls, or is Wii set to get something a little more exclusive?

No doubt more will be revealed in the coming months...

Who is the developer?

He was probably refering to Lego Star Wars. But you never know, it could work well.

Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga is trasure I think, and will absolutely rock.

A good 1:1 wiimote lightsaber game will probably take longer to make, however.

But Lucas Arts cant be stupid enough not to make it.

The Lego Star Wars games are by Travellers Tales.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

I do hope it's what the fans want. If he said "Lightsabre" game then I am inclined to think there may be some truth in it. I do know LucasArts bought up a subsiduary of ILM that used motion capture technology extensively, perhaps this is somehow related, we shall have to wait and see. LucasArts are well aware what fans want, bringing it to fruition would be very costly for any developer, but, if such a game were made competantly it would sell a obscene amount of units worlwide and the engine used would be milked to the extreme because of the development costs that would be involved. i read about this on kotaku. apparently they have a 3d lightsaber demo thing at their office.

I Rule.

They have to make this game. All they have to do is put a lightsaber on the front of the box and "1:1 motion" on the back and it will be the biggest selling game on the Wii. Every Star Wars fan with a Wii will buy the game. Some Star Wars fans will buy the Wii just to buy the game.

Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga is going to kick ass regardless, but I hope to God they're not going to skimp on the Wii version and that they'll properly utilize Wii's capabilities/potential (and for any other game they might do). LIKE INCLUDING WI-FI FOR THE WII VERSION!

I hope they give us more than just a lightsaber game for Wii (OH, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! I WANT ANOTHER ROGUE SQUADRON GAME!!) and that they'll allow us to wield blasters, force powers, explosives, and of course, a flight stick! lol

I still can't believe, of all companies, LucasArts (and Factor 5 for that matter) have not been all over Wii from the very beginning considering the huge support they've provided for Nintendo's consoles in the past. If they shaft us with half-assed ports and/or cheap spinoffs I'm going to be super pissed. Hopefully, they're purging their craniums from their rectums as we speak. lol

Sounds good to me, I will have to check that article out. [LS]

This Light-Saber game for Wii is getting too much hype... and i think when it comes out... it will probably be just average.. and everyone will be disappointed!!!

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

It won't have 1:1... or anything close to it. I hope I am wrong Smilie
