Whilst Bleach fans have so far been unable to get their fix in the gaming scene so far, Sega has now revealed plans to bring its latest Wii and DS versions of the popular anime show to the West. Bleach: Shattered Blade for the Wii and the Treasure-developed Bleach: The Blade of Fate for the Nintendo DS are being lined up for Autumn 2007 launches.
"Bleach offers both fans and newcomers alike an action-packed arcade experience that delivers fast-paced swordplay in the tradition of the animated series' intense action sequences. Bleach is an exciting and highly anticipated property that translates extremely well to the versatility of the Wii Remote and the DS' portable gameplay, and Sega is proud to be the first to bring the video game series to the North American audience."
- Sega's Marketing Vice President, Scott A. Steinberg.
For those unaware, Bleach's storyline follows 15-year-old Ichigo Kurosaki, a boy who can see Soul Reapers, spirits of warriors that protect humans from otherworldly beings called Hollows. Ichigo finally meets up with a Soul Reaper, Rukia, who graciously passes on some of her powers onto him when she is injured by a Hollow.
The Wii edition, which has been rated by many sources as the weaker of the two, is a cel-shaded 3D fighter with a storyline made especially for this version and comes with 32 fighters to choose from, including secret ones that can be unlocked as you play. As for the DS game, it can only be assumed this is set on the recently released Bleach the 2nd, rather than the first DS game. This offers up a more traditional sprite-based fighting experience with 28 characters and the ability to build and use decks of cards to access and perform special attacks and abilities. The will also include wireless multiplayer capabilities supporting up to four players at any one time.
