No they didn't.
They shocked everyone by unveiling a non-game instead of an interesting new Miyamoto game.
There's a big difference, however many lashings of disgusting spin you smear on it. Reflect the views of the community for once, rather than the press releases you get sent.
It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

nonethat wiifit will sell millions, trust me, and for the hardcore doubters think of the implications for strafing/moving or something in an FPS together with zapper., or running on the spot for the mario and sonic olympics..., or even skaetboarding, surfing or snowboarding games.
It REALLY INCENSES ME how some fanboys are like IWANTKIDICARUSMARIOGALAXYMETROID3KIDICARUSHARDCORELEVENTYONE!!!!!what people have got to realise is that nintendo is just like any other company in existence, they set out to make money, not to please their fans, no matter how much you think they love you, all that matters to them and their shareholders is money in pocket, and this is precise business sense, this will definitely be a hit, its a genius idea.
also, why not cater more for the expanded market, if you look at the percentages, theres a much much much bigger potential market than actual market, it just makes sense to go for them, they know mario glaxy and mario kart will sell, they don't need to show it off, it is unimportant, especially at a worldwide conference where the world is watching, it is the place perfect for expanded market, wii fit will catch the headlines and imaginations MUCH MUCH better to MANY MANY more people than a MMO or FPS for wii. and in turn this greater advertises the wii, its actually genius by nintendo. Nintendo do not need top show off mario, people will buy it anyway, there is no point.

noneMiyamoto seems very disinterested in traditional gaming. His abilities seem to lean towards marketing; Making games that lend themselves to self advertising and press attention. Wii sports and the like are selling not because its the cream of what it is but because it markets well. If it was the game it was meant to be when playing wii tennis I would be able to vary slice, lob more coherently, drop shot and have the same technical ability with the other sports included. Its a tad shame in one sense he seems of late to lean heavily in this direction. If Nintendo honestly want their games to cater to both sides the technical depth has to be their for experienced gamers to harness

noneTismatron your missing the point. I see why gru, bler is annoyed but he went over the top. Since december when I bought zelda I have yet to buy another game. thats 7months. There are a few games I want but for some reason or another they havent arrived yet (Super Paper Mario). Nintendo have learnt their lesson, you have to keep fresh software coming on your platform. but they are applying it almost exclusively to their new audience. The wait for TOP quality software is widening with every new generation. N64 ironicly was when they were at their peak (one of my favourite consoles) there were long waits but boy were they worth it. Two of the best zelda games. lylat wars, golden eye . . . But Im wiser now and more patient but E3 used to be when they teased us with lots of footage and info and now that has been watered down.

They've been doign that for 3 years now. It's old hat. Nobody was shocked that they were carrying on with their core strategy, no one at all.

noneI agree that this will sell s**tloads. I'm definatly getting it, but that's because I'm a fitness fad.
It also COMPLETELY gets rid of the idea that playing video games is bad for you haha.

LinkyshinksThis is a great reason for those obese 360 owners to get a Wii.

This will put Jenny Graig outta business!, it will sell ridiculously well. I will get one myself of course, it looks like great fun and very healthy, something I am always up for.

nonemeeto_0, i see where you are comign from, but similarly as I said before, nintendo is a busioness for everyone, not just ahrdcore. As reggie said in the press conference, the wii has been effectively sold out as soon as it arrives for 33 weeks. If your system is so hot, why use a potential system seller such as mario when it/he is not needed. nintendo will use the one-two punch this christmas to counter the PS3 and Halo 3 in particular in America with Metroid in August(to beat/ compete with halo(i.e., run from it!)), Mario in November, and SSBB in December, this is the time to use these system sellers (particularly for the hardcore market.)
thinking about it, i know this kind fo goes against what i said earlier, but in a way nintendo doesnt really need to advertise the wii to casuals over the chriostmas period, as wii sports and especially things like the deal with fanta will keep that going nicely, for the hardcore market nintendo really needs to push at christmas, fighting fire with fire (e.g. halo/assassins creed) I think that is partly why we are seeing wiifit in 08, as it will keep the casual fire burning nicely for 2008, the wii will ride it our on wii sports at least till then, and i wouldn't be surprised to see wiifit console bundles at launch of wiifit.
You cant say micrsoft gave their fans the hardcore games really spread out, yes there was geras of war, but thats it really, halo and the biggies are all coming out near christmas too, and PS3, its a shared strategy. its beause gaming is becoming bigger than before where you only had hardcore fans, who would buy every hardcore game out there if there was a new one each week, but now they have to compete.
I know this counteracts other things again, im sorry the ideas are flowing to me...but nintebndo maybe is also using the titles apart to slowly lower new gamers into old franchise, a bit far fetched, i know, but its good to try.
i know you feel it's unacceptable to have such a long wait, but if you look at the line up over christmas and Q1 08, i dont see the problem anymore, its just that popularity is so high there is no need, plus teh fact nintendo love to "perfect" things, its just an excuse and economically sensible to wait and do more "perfecting"

The CroftTo be honest i think this is a great idea, and will sell millions. I would buy it.
Just imagine all the fat kids in America think they are saved by a game that makes you lose weight.
Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich? They were the statement and the definition."

noneSurely Miyamoto wasn't needed to make a game like this? I mean they could've gotten anyone to Direct it.

noneJust to clarify, what would be "old hat" would be announcing a bunch of fanboy-pleasing twaddle like the other guys have been doing for their entire existence (and Nintendo themselves were doing until the release of the DS.) Fanboy service doesn't sell stock (or buy press) the way mass market service does. Yeah, there's been some grumbling in the gamer press and lots of howls of fanboy anguish on the boards. Then we have Businessweek saying that "the pressure was on Sony and Microsoft ... Both companies needed to pull out the big guns. Yet it was Nintendo that pulled out the biggest gun of all." And we have the Washington Post's headline, "Nintendo Is Star of E3 Show as Rivals Scramble to Catch Up." CNN's E3 reporter said the Wii stuff was "the most exciting developments I've seen" at E3.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all sold on the idea that Wii Fit will be more successful than Wii Sports. You didn't have to buy an extra peripheral for Wii Sports (if you're not Japanese, you didn't even have to buy Wii Sports itself), and historically speaking, the only game that will really sell for the Balance Board will be Wii Fit. We may never get to see the skate or snowboarding game that it so cries out for.
And it's possible that after this last rush of huge franchise hits for the Wii, they'll run out of love from traditional gamers (what's left after Mario Kart?) and have no one lining up for a week to buy their next system, because people who get their gaming news from the Wall Street Journal don't do that.
So yeah, boo hoo, only four "proper" AAA first-party Wii titles through next Spring. Guess you better start saving up for a 360 instead, to buy Halo 3 and..... uh, an extended warranty, and, ummmmm........

noneRaindog imposter, you are an idiot. You prefer stuff that makes better business sense to stuff that isn't shit.
But that's exactly what the conference was...
Since I am neither a Nintendo employee or share-holder, I judge Wii Fit on whether it's of any interest to me as a customer, not on whether it will make Nintendo lots of money, thankyouverymuch.
So indeed boohoo no original IP to repair Nintendo's tarnished reputation, instead just
fanboy-pleasing twaddle
