E3 2007 News | Golden Sun Rising on DS?

Joystiq are reporting that a pre-E3 show was held by Nintendo, wherein they showed off a bundle of titles that were early on in development and not due to appear at the main show. While as of yet we can't tell how much was at this gathering, apparently one such game shown was an all-new entry into the Golden Sun series on Nintendo DS - Golden Sun: The Solar Soothsayer.

Not too many details are known, but players will seemingly be controlling Felix in a direct continuation of the Game Boy Advance iterations, with touch screen controls not dissimilar to Zelda: Phantom Hourglass/Animal Crossing: Wild World/Pokemon Ranger. Psynergy attacks will also be controlled via the touch screen, and graphically it is said to have a pseudo-3D look that is close to the GBA games but with enhancements. It is also reported by MaxConsole that the story is of huge importance to the developers, leading them to write it and the script before other development began.

While you wait for more news along with us, here are a couple of photos that a gobo_4227 caught on a mobile phone, courtesy of Joystiq. Click to enlarge.

Thanks to Joystiq and MaxConsole for the information, and to C3 member IfritXVII for the news tip.

I've been waiting for this... It's kinda funny, I've been playing through the first Golden Sun, & I'll be playing Lost Age when I finish! This sounds too good to be true... it really does, & if it is true then it's made my E3. Maybe even my year. I love Camelot's games & Golden Sun has always been a firm favourite of mine. Playing it fills me with nostalgia too.

Please let it be real. Transferring game data from Lost Age is perfectly possible, & Felix is cool. But Isaac should be a main character too IMO.

Anyway, Isaac or Felix in Brawl anyone? Smilie

Golden Sun, while sometimes you get stuck because you do not know how to advance further from a specific room, is one of the best RPGs I ever played. And I even only played part 1 since I want to take my party with me to part 2. I am glad it gets it's 3rd part, since it was planned as a trilogy and even was noted in some 'Games, that never got a planned part'-articles I read.

Until this is officially confirmed, I'm not gonna get too excited. It'll be fun to find out how the Golden Sun world has changed now that Alchemy is everywhere.

If they keep the same battle system (which I hope they do), one thing needs to change: In the first two games, if two of your fighters were set to attack the same monster and the first fighter killed it, the second, instead of going for another enemy, would just defend. That needs to change.

Same here, but people can be so cruel. I can't bring myself to believe it, but at the same time I can't help but believe it... Smilie

If a DS version is indeed on the way, then we could see a Wii game as the next sequel, seeing as GBA has connectivity to DS, & DS has connectivity to Wii, it'd be a great way to keep the series alive whilst still keeping some of your data from the very first game Smilie

    EDIT:
    Wikipedia says:
On July 11, 2007, an early version of a DS game called Golden Sun: The Solar Soothsayer was reportedly shown off at a small pre-E3 gathering; however, the bottom screen shows official art from The Lost Age, and the DS is sitting alone on a table, not even strapped down, so the likelihood is high that it is fake. Currently, it is unknown if a DS version of Golden Sun will be developed.

    Sounds fake I guess. Smilie

Yep, all the evidence points to it. I'm just pissed off someone had the nerve to do something so provoking.

Really, Camelot have no reason not to do another Golden Sun, they're hardly a busy company, & they definitely still have it in them. Mario Tennis Advance's RPG game stunk of Golden Sun, & that's why I thought it was so brilliant. I can't get enough of it.

So Camelot, hear our plea or we'll be forced to call Golden Sun "The Shenmue of Nintendo"

Don't make us do that Smilie

O.O Dream-Come-True! Golden Sun is my all-time favorite game. I love it even more than the Legend of Zelda games. If this is real and it does come out, I hope it has Wi-Fi. And Alex. I luffs Alex. Sadly it doesn't look very real. :'(
