The Japanese are suckers for DQ.

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the cliché. They were the statement and the definition."

It actually is surprising given that the Wii audience isn't made up of traditional DQ fans. However, Wii sales are apparently up as well, so it seems people are specifically buying the console for the game.

Oh and Dragon Quest ft Yangus, last year's RPG dungeon crawling spin-off only sold something like 250,000 overall and that was to roughly 19 million PS2 owners at the time. So not ALL DQ games sell like crazy.

200,000 on day one for Wii is fantastic, with it likely to hit 300,000 with ease by the full chart release next Thursday. And with the TV game from years back selling 500,000 units, you'd think the Wii update could at least match that, lifting the game higher than most Nintendo First Party Wii games!

And did anyone notice it is the best game launch on Wii in Japan, even beating the games out at console launch?

But games at launch won't sell that quick as not many people have the consoles.
I wonder what smash brothers will do for Wii in japan.

Despite being a somewhat low-expecting game for me personally, it's always good to see a core game being sold that well. I hope it keeps up. If this railshooter is playing well I will consider buying it as I would so dear want to have a decent DQ for Wii.

With 350,000 in the first week shipment, unless S-E gets another batch of DQS out quickly, the game's likely to plummet fast.

    Will Square-Enix ever learn?

Seems not! It's like releasing Itadaki Street at the same time clearly impacted on its first week sales, meaning that whilst it could have easily made 500,000, now it seems it will barely limp to 300,000 at the current rate Smilie

Hopefully It's a Wonderful World will get a significant first week when it hits in a week or so.

They featured Dragon Quest Sword on O-T-S last night. It looked good but it's not to my tastes, I prefer something a little more conventional in respect to DQ RPG games. Great introduction for kids into the RPG genre I imagine, probally SE incentive to make the game in the first place. {LS]

selling Wii over 100K is quite an achivement, regardless the games which are responsible for that (Dragon Quest). Nicely done!
You know, maybe DQ is worth buying. I am sure to check some test from European and American magazines, thou, as the gameplay is something of special, more Japanese approach.

What's more the 360 is around 10m units in sales.

nexgenwars has the 360 vs. Wii gap at just over 2 million, IIRC. vgchartz has it at less than 1 million.

And given it's wonderful reliability so far, there's probably only 7 million 360's still working Smilie

Interesting, somewhere down the middle is a safe assumption to make. Nintendo have seriously kicked arse this year, well I guess it has another 4 months! to top the 11 million or so that 360 has.

Unbelievable sales, Wii Fit and Brain T and all the tripple As have YET to surface too Smilie. By the end of the year there will be more Wii owners in the world than 360 owners, just wait and see I tell ya!. {LS]
