Nintendo News | Smash Update: Aonuma Confirms Return for Shiek and Ganondorf

With Hyrule's finest princess and legendary hero making their expected return to the Smash stage, the presence of two other stars from the Hylian universe remained questioned. However, Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has confirmed a return for Shiek and Ganondorf in Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Game Informer: Have you been consulted at all for the usage of Link or Sheik or Ganondorf for Smash Bros. Brawl?

Eiji Aonuma: I've been working with Sakurai for a very long time with this new Smash Bros., because the Wii came out and when discussion for a new Smash Bros. took place nobody could think of anyone other than Sakurai working on it. He was kind of the default, and I was very happy to hear that he would be working on it. Actually, my designers did work on the designs for Sheik and Link and Ganondorf. So they submitted the initial designs, and so it would fit in the Smash Bros. Brawl environment, they've had to tweak some of the designs. But Sakurai has brought those altered designs to NCL. We're working very closely with the team of Smash Bros. Brawl to make sure the characters look their best.

Been waiting for confirmation of Ganondorf for some time now, I use him the most in SSBM Smilie Just hope most of his movesets remain the same, I don't want him to handle like a whole other character.

Hmm, to be honest I hope he has completely different moves - his punch was relevant; but perhaps a charge-up ground punch, and a few sword based moves. I'd like him to ideally be a bit faster. As for Shiek, can't wait! Hopefully (s)he's a totally separate entity!

Well that's good news, the more Nintendo mascots the better. I just hope Ganondorf keeps his brute power, but gets a slight speed increase and his own moveset. He's always had sick swordfights in the games, so give the man a sword!

I wonder if Sheik's design will be updated to match everyone's TP look..

Just keep in mind that just because a design was submitted, it doesn't mean it WILL be included.

He didn't actually say they would be in the game, or whether they would be fully playable (i.e., they might be one of those 'assist trophy' things).

But, still, I hope this means they are both included. The more playable characters, the better, IMO, as long as they're all balanced Smilie

Well, they have about 5 moths to develope this game, so I don't think they will cancel Ganondorf and Sheik just because it was too late in development.

There was the sheikah symbol on her cloak if you look closely so that may have been a reference.

yeah thats awesome Ganondorf RULES!!! hey boyz and girls, check out some cool stuff i found: www.nintencast.com/index.php?subaction=showfull&id=1186202715&archive=&start_from=&ucat=2& i saw this and got curious so i did the same with Photoshop, amazingly its true, its a SOnic Emblem found in the Smash Bros Stage!!! i saw it as well... after zooming 500% and sharpening. it could be evidence of Sonic in BRAWL!!! check it out!

I'm hoping this is confirmation as Ganondorf and Shiek were both pretty cool characters. As Mongo said though, it still isn't quite a guarantee.

That's BS. I tried zooming in 500% and sharpening it myself, but the picture ends up grainy and looking crappy in general. You can't see shit no matter what you do to it. It's a hoax.

BS? oh shit sorry my mistake... used Indesign... sorry boys... just enlarge to 500 then enhance i got the same image shown in the website. and u can kinda see it from the pic if u look closely. look at the SOnic icon on the website then look at the pic. u can see it there. try that.

hey i'm sure he'll keep the unlockables a secret. until someone plays it and wets themselves when they finally see the surprise... yeah i'm talking about myself... man its gonna be killer! but i like how he leaves some clues out there for us to figure out and then at the end he says: "it was always there, u didn't see it" bastard... for now i want him to show the old characters and some new characters for us to see how they look... i picture TP ganondorf... ah yes.. plus he confirms they will be in it just look at when he says: "But Sakurai has brought those altered designs to NCL. We're working very closely with the team of Smash Bros. Brawl to make sure the characters look their best." that is a confirmation that they're working on it. Smilie

Yeah, it is BS, I tried it myself. Sonic will probably be in Brawl anyway, but that's the kind of Pikablu hoax that everyone on the internet will try to push on you.

& I'd much rather it be online than have Sonic, if I had to choose, it'd be online for sure. I think it'll be the other way around though.
