Nintendo News | 07 Commando Comes to DS

Lexicon Entertainment has revealed that it has signed the new Nintendo DS 2D, side-scrolloing, action shooter project '07 Commando', developed by Chinese team Mana Computer Software Co. Ltd. Assuming the role of 'Storm', who is extremely agile with a plethora of actions, players will battle against arch enemy hoodlum organisation 'Rattlesnake' and its henchmen. Besides basic actions, such as shoot, jump and throw, Storm also has a rolling manoeuvre to dodge enemy strikes. The game's story is based around a rebel group called 'Rattlesnake' that has instigated conflict by utilising heavy weaponry to gain control of the world...however, 'Storm' of 07 Commando receives orders to stop the ambitious Rattlesnake and puts an end to its domination.

07 Commando offers special missions, plus hidden missions with each operation presenting a unique location with various backdrops and landforms, along with dynamic weather effects to create a vibrant and highly charged spectacle. It has explosive confrontations where guile and a quick mind will be required by the player has lots of diverse enemies with unique shapes, actions and attack methods will test the player's metal. Enemies will mass in patterns to attack and block and make progress tough. Players will experience some drastic battle scenes with very shocking boss battles. These huge special bosses add extra spice to the constant bombardment which is laced with unexpected surprises!

Many types of weapons and pick-up items add real diversity with the power and attack method of each weapon being fundamentally very different. The knock on effect will not show only in combat but also different weapons have an important use in seeking the hidden items. 07 Commando will also contain many essential collectables - disks - which are the keys to open the hidden missions. Most of these precious disks are under cover so the player will need to seek them out. Several motivating, limited time, interesting mini games intensify the ambience of 07 Commando. These mini games, which must be played on the touch screen, are very important to complete to ensure real progression.

Sounds like good dumb fun

I saw screenshots for this game over at IGN, it looks a lot like a Metal Slug clone, but I guess imitation's the sincerest form of flattery, eh? Smilie The game looks very nice none the less.

I don't think it'll beat Contra 4, but what the hey, the DS need more of these sort of games.

Sounds like a pretty awesome shooter! And I like the colour. Contra's dark gritty graphics don't work on the DS. The screens so far looked like utter shit but this looks nice.
