Nintendo Media | Smash Update: Samus Whips to Recovery

By Jorge Ba-oh 16.08.2007 18

Today's update on the Official Smash Bros. Brawl website reveals a recovery move for Zero Suit Samus (amongst others) to help her return to safe ground.

You know that Zero Suit Samus has a Plasma Whip, right? But you may not know that she can use it for recovery.

Samus is falling! This looks bad! She uses her up special move! She just manages to latch on! She can retract it to bring her to the ledge.

Moves like that can be pretty thrilling. And it's not exclusive to Zero Suit Samus... Other characters can do it, too!

Be sure to stick around for updates...

That looks great, a good update to the character. Bowser looks like he ready to knock her off again, divine evil I tell ya!. I bet Samus performs a kick flip or something as she jumps onto the platform to stop repeated knock off's.{LS]

Hmm nothing that new. Link could do it in SSBM.

Samus could do it in Melee aswell. Pretty pointless because the jump + B-Up move was always more effective.

Nup!here's a generic Samus video which shows a whole range of her comebacks!

while her up-B worked nicely if you fall below the stage, as a general rule a diagonal dodge and quick grapple is better - it moves you further horizontally (i.e. at 2 mins 15 seconds)Smilie

She can also come back really effectively with a "bomb jump" (39 seconds), where she does down-B twice before moving horizontally.

Anyhow, the interesting aspect of this update is that it may not be a grab at all - Sakurai calls it an 'up-special':

She uses her up special move! She just manages to latch on!

- it seems to be her up-B move... god knows how you aim it Smilie
Exciting times!

This makes me hope even more that Zero Suit Samus will be a playable character from the start and not just a consequence of a Final Smash.

You never know, there might be a way to select her, Like selecting Sheik at the start of the round you hold A as the game is loading and you hear the jingle and start as Sheik. Hopefully there will be something like that for Samus in Brawl.

has this made anyone else think about Links double clawshotSmilie

well if you knew a lot about melee samus was a very good character, she was the beast in the game at getting back on, she hav her up b, her whip which she can do whip cancel jumps with it to jump super high, her bomb jump if your really far out, and don't forget her bomb wave dash, which is the longest of all the wave dashes

Bowser looks to be the same size from adventure mode.

I think they may have increased Bowser's size from last time.

Yeah. Makes him seem Proper size if you ask me. Kinda small in Melee.

yea i thought he looked bigger, but just making sure, but i also think its an improvement

The grapple beam in melee wasn't too good for recovery, did it have any advantage over the screw attack?

It had ALOT of advantages over the screw attack if you knew how to use it right. For example, Samus's super jump when she uses her grapple. here take a look!

Ok never mind I couldn't find a good video on youtube, so if you really want to know, search youtube for samus!

heh just lik link nice lil hookshot nothin to be really yip yip about but still kewlSmilie
