As much as my love for Nintendo is strong, this is the biggest sore point I have with them, and in the case of the Wii, the game makers.
I only have 3 games for my Wii so far and that won't change for a while. The vast majority of the games are just not worth the money they seek to get. I will not support average games at terrible prices.
The normal price for a Wii game in Australia is $100, down to $80 for budget. PS3 and 360 games are $100 to $120. The 360 has a lot of 'classic' games for $50 to $60. When you have some extremely average ports at $80 or even $100 on the Wii, then nobody should buy them.
Resident Evil 4 is $80 in Australia - that is a rip-off. It should be $60 at best. This is why I intend to get my NTSC Wii and just import - cheaper.
The popularity of the system does not justify the prices. The games cost less to get to the market, right through the process, so prices should reflect that.
On the Cube - Nintendo have rocks in their heads. They should re-release a range of games at budget prices - real budget prices. They should repackage them with a Wii logo, but still clearly identify them as a Cube game that plays on the Wii. Then they will sell to those who didn't get into the Cube, who will realise that they had some great games.
It is a historical thing with Nintendo and price reductions. They have always been shite at it and it annoys the living hell out of me. Sony did it well and so have Microsoft. It extends the life of the product because it keeps it on the shelf longer. Otherwise, they get cleared out and never restocked.
Rant over - continue.
