Nintendo News | Wii Budget Goes Out of the Window

By Adam Riley 25.08.2007 22

The Players' Choice range has been dead in Europe for a long time, with the GBA budget games never making it across from Japan and the US. So it is with no surprise the Nintendo UK has confirmed there will be no Wii budget range either.

Speaking with trade magazine MCV, a Nintendo spokesperson stated:

"We have no plans for a Wii budget label. Nintendo Wii software is performing very well at its current price points.

"It's important to note that Nintendo do not set prices. It is retailers that will ultimately set the prices of both hardware and software. And with brand new software titles available at estimated retail prices of between

I don't see why not. Twilight Princess can't stay at full RRP forever.

Fuck you Nintendo! I hate the fact that Nintendo games are so fucking expensive. As if I am going to still pay full price for Mario Party 7 on gamecube.

You buy mario party 7 then you deserve to pay full price. Bloody foolish for anyone if you ask me.

The casual gamers Nintendo are trying to atract would lap up budget games surely. They probably wouldn't pay the prices we pay for games.

Those games are really already at Budget prices, especially when compaired to other games.

You buy mario party 7 then you deserve to pay full price. Bloody foolish for anyone if you ask me.

I didn't buy it or was intending to. I was just using it as an example. Plus how does someone deserve to pay full price for buying a crappy game? That's stupid.

An example, well thats fair enough. If someone's dumb enough to buy a full priced gamecube game now of all times (and a crap one at that), then they should fork out for it.

good i hate Players Choice all game come down any way so :/

i hate it when u want a game u miss and it bloody Players Choice ill pay a 2rd hand one then that shi%

Thats why I am pissed. I want to buy some old GC games I missed out on like Chibi Robo and they are still full-priced. Wtf is the deal with that?

Shops are tight-fisted, thats what. Surely Ebay or some other site has Chibi-robo at a lower price?

That's stupid... I'm not really surprised about the DS, seeing as GBA had one, but every major home console has a budget range, it's all part of fighting the war. Nintendo are just money greedy.

Mario Party 8 + Budget = 42.

I got it off ebay... but they are still selling GC games. But I don't understand why? No one is buying them, especially at those prices.

As much as my love for Nintendo is strong, this is the biggest sore point I have with them, and in the case of the Wii, the game makers.

I only have 3 games for my Wii so far and that won't change for a while. The vast majority of the games are just not worth the money they seek to get. I will not support average games at terrible prices.

The normal price for a Wii game in Australia is $100, down to $80 for budget. PS3 and 360 games are $100 to $120. The 360 has a lot of 'classic' games for $50 to $60. When you have some extremely average ports at $80 or even $100 on the Wii, then nobody should buy them.

Resident Evil 4 is $80 in Australia - that is a rip-off. It should be $60 at best. This is why I intend to get my NTSC Wii and just import - cheaper.

The popularity of the system does not justify the prices. The games cost less to get to the market, right through the process, so prices should reflect that.

On the Cube - Nintendo have rocks in their heads. They should re-release a range of games at budget prices - real budget prices. They should repackage them with a Wii logo, but still clearly identify them as a Cube game that plays on the Wii. Then they will sell to those who didn't get into the Cube, who will realise that they had some great games.

It is a historical thing with Nintendo and price reductions. They have always been shite at it and it annoys the living hell out of me. Sony did it well and so have Microsoft. It extends the life of the product because it keeps it on the shelf longer. Otherwise, they get cleared out and never restocked.

Rant over - continue.

Temporarily banned until further notice.

More money for them... -__-

The fact that we are already getting ripped off and prices won't lower...

Rare games for the Gamecube go for a expensive price, and thats 2nd hand... on ebay

You will be lucky to get chibo robo pikmin 2, other rare games cheap

It could have to do with them being backwards compatible with the Wii, therefore leading shops to believe that they can weasel some extra bucks. Also, Chibi-Robo isn't that common of a game to find, or so I've heard.

It's isn't, it's criminally rare, I've only ever seen 3 copies.
