Amazing news. I would have though Bioshock would have done a lot better. Clearly advertising prevails?

Most of the people I know illegally downloaded Bioshock. They were so pissed because it took more than a week for a working crack to surface. ;-p

And Metroid Prime 3 will sell in Europe, this time I'm even helping!! It will be the first game since Wii Play and Zelda at launch day.

Thought this was a wild extrapolation based on an odd intepretation of some internet rumours? (see this concise explanation).

Basically, it seems that MP3 is the #1 selling game in the US this week, knocking Bioshock off the top spot. That's quite an achievement for the supposedly 'casual' Wii.

Some people, bizarrely, have interpreted the story as saying that MP3 sold more this week than Bioshock sold last week (that's where the 400K comes in). There's nothing in the original Gamasutra story that actually states this though. It's just an odd take on a slightly ambiguous sentence.

Here's the key sentence from the original Gamasutra story.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption bests former overall sales leader BioShock in its first week of release, becoming the week's single best-selling software title across all platforms in the United States.

I've emboldened the key word here. To me its refers to MP3, not Bioshock. In other words, MP3, in its first week on sale, has sold more than Bioshock this week. That does not mean it sold more than Bioshock did last week (in Bioshock's first week on sale).

"This man has advanced communist views ... He dresses in a bohemian fashion both at his office and in his leisure hours."

Annoying how CVG didn't quote its source...I'll read through the Gamasutra story properly and update this to mirror the conclusion. But Dr_R, I'm inclined to think the same as you from that snippet.

EDIT: So I presume first week sales of Bioshock were 400,000, which is why people are saying MP3 has sold more than that in its first week? I've updated the story slightly to reflect this. Plus it's only based off Amazon sales, which is not reflective of the whole market. We'll see how the two compare in the NPD chart soon enough, I'm sure...

Good news but I dont think Amz is a good reflection ofn the full picture, still it's great though, especially if it lasts. Really looking foward to it, I am being sent a ridiculous amounto of in game taken shots by U.S members on this site, the games Art direction has got my mouth watering and apparently the game is not easy to beat which having compleyed Bioshock with ease is just what I want now. Stop sending me pics now Smilie

The 400k that Bioshock supposedly sold came from VGChartz. NPD has not released their August numbers to verify any of the claims. MP3 nor Bioshock may have actually sold over 400k.

It's good news, even though Bioshock may have sold more in it's first week. Still, Bioshock is a system seller (as is Metroid Prime 3 though) I think Metroid Prime 3 wouldn't do too badly against Halo 3 Smilie

Though I guess it's good Nintendo got MP3 out first in the states at least, in EU we'll have to wait through Halo 3 to get it.

PC games usually just don't sell that well these days. Although this was also on xbox360.... so maybe its just that Wii owners are starving for a decent game?

If ever a game deserved good sales, it was the Metroid Prime titles.
