Nintendo Wii Media | Smash Update: Golden Hammer

By Jorge Ba-oh 17.09.2007 7

The first update on the Smash Bros. Dojo this week comes with big bang as the famed hammer makes a return, but with a coat of shiny golden paint.

It's a golden hammer. Just like the title says.

It appears on a very important looking pedestal. It's even more powerful than a normal hammer. And it's even more rare. Swing, swing, swing the hammer!

This hammer drops with fearsome force! Not only does it boast increased power, but you also swing it faster.

...And it may have even more effects.

If you rapidly tap the button, you can float in midair! What is this?! As far as hooks go, this is pretty odd. It may even be a little hardcore.

By the way... The normal hammer was known to occasionally lose its head... Ever have this misfortune happen to you?

This item also occasionally malfunctions... And it is then apparently called the Golden Squeaky Hammer.

Squeaksqueaksqueaksqueak!

Be sure to stick around for updates...

Brings back memories of the hammer in Melee, althought the baseball bat still pwns everything

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

Never liked the hammer, easy to counter someone has it though.

I think the home-run bat is still the best weapon.

Yeah the Home Run Bat is better but maybe this Golden Hammer will be better than the one in Melee because of the tuning.

I always thought the star rod was the best because of the low angle projectory it sends you on.

Anyone can dodge a homerun swing, but dodgeing a star rod while trying to get back on is impossible.

(A thrown bat pops the person up so they can still get back on, but the star rod sends them flying low, making it very hard.)

The items look awesome, I must remember to turn on items every now and again.

I rarely fight with items, so the new ones don't cause much excitement for me, that said, some of the new ones sound like they could be some amazing fun.

This is.. not one of them. The other items so far have been *new*, with the assist trophies also being an idea stemming from the pokeballs, this is a different version of an old item that sort of brings it down a little for me. Don't get me wrong, it sounds like a worthy addition in many respects, but I am a Smash Bros. Fanatic, I was ready for all new, all tweaked, all perfect Smash Bros Brawl. I suppose there was always going to be something that I bitched about.

On a side note, assist trophies were an excellent idea, they allow for Smash Bros to encompass the wider Nintendiverse while not wasting too much time on clones and developing full-fledged fighters.

My chief concerns remain at two very important things, the online capabilities of the game and the AI. The game needs to have level 9 CPU fighters that continue to challenge all players throughout the game's life to satisfy me. What is the point of 9 levels of difficulty when all 9 are so easy to defeat in Melee?
