Nintendo News | Retro Comments on Metroid Dread Rumour

By Jorge Ba-oh 27.09.2007 20

Retro's Mark Pacini recently discussed recent speculation on the company's supposed hints on "Metroid Dread" in the Wii installment of the Metroid Prime. Will Samus return in 2D?

MTV: What's the story behind the apparent reference in "Metroid Prime 3″ to "Metroid Dread," the rumored but never-confirmed 2D game some fans hope is being made at Nintendo?

Pacini: "It's not what you think it means... it as something that was overlooked and wasn't in any way indicating anything about the handheld game. We know no information about the handheld games.

MTV: Are you suggesting that you got in trouble or something?

Pacini: Not at all. We actually had a fictional element of something else in the game that by a large coincidence could be read that we were giving a hint about "Metroid Dread" which was not the case. It's a complete and utter coincidence.

MTV: OK.

Pacini: That's all I can say on it.

Be sure to read the complete interview for more Metroid antics.

...Damn!

I bet the guys at Retro put the reference in there without permission, and now Nintendo is having them explain it away.

Either that or it really was just a coincidence...

Or maybe he is telling the truth and there is no Metroid Dread Smilie.

What was the apparently reference anyway? I seem to remember it being something insanely vague and unlikely...

"Experiment status report update: Metroid project 'Dread' is nearing the final stages of completion."

Where did the Metroid Dread rumor start in the first place?

Well it was a dumb name, but hell I would love to see another original 2D or sidescrolling Metroid.

I don't think it was such a dumb name, it seems to fit in the style of Metroid Fusion (Best. Metroid game. Ever.)

Well, just because Retro know nothing of Dread doesn't mean there isn't one. They 3D people, not 2D. Smilie

It wasn't a rumour, it was an officially announced game, but then it got cancelled. Or so non-conspiracy theorists would have you believe...

I love the fact that the last thing Pacini says is, "That's all I can say on it."

Translation: Yeah, we put it there, but we can't say a thing about it. If we do, we'll end up like the new guy who mysteriously disappeared. Just imagine that it never existed. For now.

Whether or not it's true, I won't be buying it if it's anything like Zero Mission or that horrible Fusion.

Of course, that's just an opinion.

As if Zero Mission was better than fusion. Fusion was orgasmic.

You're kidding, right? Fusion was barely a Metroid game, with all its hand-holding.

Of course, that's just an opinion.

A least it didn't have a whole intro chapter based on learning how to play the game...

So basically, you don't like proper Metroid games? Smilie

I remember reading that but on the scan before that one it says something about the dread being an experiment on metroids making them into weapons for space pirates. Didn't I send you a pic of that LS.Smilie

Maybe they put it there when dread was being produced and never removed it since?...or it really is true (which i'm hoping for)

Avoid Games Like the Plague, productivity++

aww that sucks! I liked Fusion quite alot so it would be cool if they made another 2D game!

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

You know its fun when they do something different with the series, Fusion did have a different feel from other 2D metroids. It was at the very least very engaging, while Zero Mission was as dull as a plain slice of toast.

Yeah you did, and I passed it on to a few others that thought the same as me. Shame there was nothing behind it all, the DS could do with a 2D game.
