By Adam Riley 28.09.2007 37

The latest sales figures are in and the release of the PSP Slim has completely wiped the floor with the competition this week, especially the DS, giving Sony the lead for a second week running. Check out the software list below, and the early hardware figures. The Wii also hits its lowest point since launch:

PSP has 4 out of the top 30...i'd hardly say that was completely wiping the floor.....And if you add the two pokemon games togetther they are first...Smilie

EDIT: oh didn't notice the hardware numbers...

What's with low sales of DS and Wii? Supply constrainted?

Shame Mario Strikers didn't sell that well, it really is a brilliant game.

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

Probably no supply constraints - just the hype from the new PSP likely. As for the Wii, its needs new games...

I imagine the DS will return to the top though after a few weeks though.

I reckon it will also, this will not last long enough for Sony. Remember their are some HUGE DS games about to hit in October/November time and some of those titles will sell more DSs. When DQ hits it will practically be a national holiday, it is thee biggest game there.

New Version of the psp . alongside some major software releases for the psp has bought this on. When Zelda appears for the DS, expect a large rise in sales, and by this time the sales of psp will have dropped.

Already happened....about 3 months ago....yeah Dragon Quest was banned from being released on a work day since so many people were "off sick" to go and play it...thats just crazy...

A lot of people think that DQ thing is a bit of an urban legend, to be honest...although it would make sense due to the massive first week sales attributed to the series.

Mario Strikers is a massive bomb, considering the GC game did far better in its first week Smilie The Wii game will struggle to reach 200,000 it seems (around the total the GC game hit).

As for PSP, I actually reckon a lot of people are simply upgrading from the old PSP to the new one since the software has hardly been boosted...Sure, FF and MGS both did well, but what else? Monster Hunter creeps into the Top 30, but Fate/Tiger drops heavily...Levels should drop soon enough. DS has some massive hitters, like FFTA2, ASH, FFIV, Tales of Innocence and DQIV in the next few months.

i wonder if nintendo plans to counter or just let the psp rush chill itself

I'd hardly say it's "wiping the floor"...

But NO!! PSP beat DS, that automatically makes it a better console! Smilie

I think 264,000 compared to 67,000 is indeed wiping the floor...whether it's temporary or not! Anyway, the DS Lite has the funky two-tone edition coming out soon (the one in the Brain Age 2 bundle in the US). That should balance matters again, sure enough.

Shut up.

FF did much worse than I expected considering the first week. At this rate as soon as hardware goes down again it will completely stop selling probably not reaching the million mark, but you would consider it quite normal for a Final Fantasy game when you look at the rate regarding first week/LTD. The lower first week rates are all for Nintendo Handhelds spin-offs, and even if it would match the best one would barely pass the million. Calculating an average it should be 800-850k LTD at most.

Are those the console sales or the software sales? Because the DS + Wii software sales are 274000 according to the figures there, & the Sony figures add up to 226000. Unless I've missed the point entirely of course ^^;

Now, no need for that. Jump is entitled to an opinion like the rest of us.

Anyhoo - I'd guess DS lites are back in stock now pretty well. The DS just got beat this week, though I must say that its something that it took a new PSP release, as well as a FF 7 game to do it.

I think PSP slim together with FF does sell this much. When FF and the touch of the new wears off (remember, in Japan, there are a lot of first buyers), DS will lead again. I must say, I was shocked to see PSP takes the lead, but why? It does deserve it. And Wii and DS don't have great games out at the moment. This will change...

Star for that, Jacob4000. LM may have not meant it that way, but he need not to fuck Jump_button for stating his opinion.
I state mine, too: X360 is bullshit!
So, do I get cruciated? *hehe*

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

About time the PSP came out fighting. It'll keep Nintendo on their toes, anyway.

Is that anything but trolling?

So, swings and roundabouts. PSP releases a stupendously huge game (I missed the PSOne era, so have no idea what all this FF7 stuff is really about), a new edition of another huge game and a hardware revision. Surprise, surprise, they get big numbers. I'm sure Sony worked hard to get all three things to coincide.

Wii really does need some new software to start shifting some serious hardware units again. I suppose it's coming, and we'll see a big upswing but I wonder what would've happened if the Wii hadn't basically been selling itself for this first year. Still, I suppose first years of consoles are pretty much always like this.

2 people can play at that game... or something. Nintendo still have more firgures in the top 10 overall, even if Sony have spots 1, 2 & 7. ZOMG Nintendo is whining winning!! Smilie

EDIT: Mario Galaxy & Brawl are on the way. They will surely cause apocoliptic sales, & Nintendo's bees will block out the sun.

I doubt it will saty like that for very long and one thing everybody has to understand is that the DS has been wiping the floor with the PSP since it's release and this isjust a one off.
If you also look at the overal sales then the DS is still killing the PSP
