The latest sales figures are in and the release of the PSP Slim has completely wiped the floor with the competition this week, especially the DS, giving Sony the lead for a second week running. Check out the software list below, and the early hardware figures. The Wii also hits its lowest point since launch:

hehehe i reckon they're holding onto wii's cause i saw some ppl over at Kotaku that the stores run out of wiis, so think about it, u have mad games at the end of the yr, Metroid, mario and Smash bros, holding wii's back means its gonna be one intensive holiday season. plus ff7 and metal gear? what else could u expect. don't forget wii and Ds ruled the top 20 before sometimes without any other console software.
The Wii sales may be low, but it is reflective of the market - except a heavily manipulated PSP release. The Wii is only 1,000 behind last week and the PS3 is about 3,000 down on last week and still can't beat the PS2.
I have handled the new PSP and it is amazingly light. The thing is that it felt so light that it felt cheap. I really prefer the solid and heavier feel of my original PSPs. I have no intention of changing. I barely use my PSPs as it is, although I look forward to FF Tactics, yet I still expect to play the DS version more (like maybe 1000 hours compared to 500 hours of gameplay).
This is a temporary spike. The handheld gaming world is not about to change.
Regardless of what people like or don't like, PSP HAS good games. It's just that the developers (and Sony) behaviour has been to think of it as a home console while it's a handheld. Most of the good games on it are hardcore and more suited to the home console users rather than handheld ones (at least IMHO). And people can play those games on the PS2 already, so it would be a nonsense to buy a PSP for something you already have (or something you could have for a lower price). You don't play RPGs and GTA games when you're on the train, the (in)famous mini games fests or training (non-)games are better suited for that. So it's ok, go on developing hc games for the Sony handheld, but keep in mind that no matter how much good a game is you'll encounter a sort of barrier consisting in a much different userbase (not in terms of numbers).
Lets not overlook the total units sold catergory, and I think xmas holds the proof in the pudding, coupled with some hot titles, DS and Wii will pull away. Mark my words.

Consider them marked. Well, not really, I just wanted to say that.
But anyway, definitely. Once the big games come out for Wii I think it will regain its former self. I can't wait to see how Galaxy does over there. Does anyone know how Sunshine did?

the life time sales says it all, its a good 2 week victory for Sony none the less, but when they get a massive order of receipts with people wanting there money back because they bought another PSP except this time u can play it on TV. I could've swore the PSP Slim was just an even slimmer PS2.
