Nintendo Wii News | Sin & Punishment Hits Europe Today!

By Adam Riley 28.09.2007 18

The close of the Hanabi Festival is upon us and Nintendo has graciously released the previously Japanese-only Sin & Punishment onto the Virtual Console download service for Wii owners to grab, along with some other treats, such as the US version of Gradius III.

"First on the list this week is Sin And Punishment, the classic Nintendo 64 3D third-person shooter game, developed by Treasure Co. Ltd. Originally released in 2000, this non-stop action title will see you assuming the role of a young resistance fighter facing an onslaught of bio-genetic monsters called Ruffians. These monsters, originally bred to boost dwindling food stocks on Earth, have turned against their creators and are trying to take over! In order to save the planet players must battle their way across land, sea and skies collecting energy, time and point bonuses as they go. A cool head and a strong trigger finger are essential to defeating the hordes of enemies that stand between our hero and victory! To enable players to better enjoy this cult Japanese classic, some in-game text has been translated into English, especially for this Hanabi Festival release. Sin And Punishment can be yours to download now for 1200 Wii Points.

Next, buckle up and prepare for battle in Konami's much-loved 1990 side-scrolling shooter Gradius III. Players seize control of their Vic Viper Starfighter and take on the armadas of the Bacterion Empire. With ten levels to fight through, players will have their work cut out for them! With a variety of different weapons at your disposal you can mix and match lasers, missiles and shields to create customised set-ups giving you a fighting chance. This Super Nintendo Entertainment System version, originally released in the U.S., comes to Europe for the first time and is available now for 900 Wii Points.

If you want to try something a little magical, then Legend of Hero Tonma is this week's non "Hanabi Festival" offering. In this platform shooter, players assume the role of Tonma, a trainee magician who must rescue a princess from prison, using magic spells to battle giant bosses and work their way through seven stages riddled with treasure chests and unusual power-ups! Legend of Hero Tonma is available now for 600 Wii Points.

Nintendo also reminds people that "For those of you who haven't yet got your hands on the epic Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, it will only be available on Virtual Console up to and including 30th September 2007." So be sure to grab that little gem as well as soon as possible.

Stick around for further updates...

Mario may be worth its 900 points. But rising price by 20 % just and only for 'couple of translations' is a bit harsh, methinks. Are these games worth it?

/edit: Don't get me wrong, I think it's great to make specials like the Hana-Bi-Festival. I like these themed releases very much and spend quite some time on VC just for reading history of these games or take in gossip. And getting Japanese-only games is just what we all wanted, be it Paper Mario, Mario Lost Levels, a lot of PC-Engine-games (Turbografx16 as never oficially released in Europe) or the like.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

1200 Wii Points ?_? your jokeing i hope >_< fuck i only save 1000

oh god your right >_< it say on the old one it was 1000

iam going to be so piss off if i dont get in in time lol

For one who won't be getting it, I would have at least prefered it if it was just 1000 points... 1200 sounds like a total rip off, I doubt it hardly got any translation at all.

agreed, 1200 points just seems greedy.

conversely, it can be said that (back in the day) peeps would gladly modify their trusty ol' N64 and then spend a hundred quid on ebay JUST TO IMPORT AND PLAY SIN & PUNISHMENT.

suddenly ten quid seems very very cheap, no?
oh well, it's too late for me worry about it now, ive already downloaded it!

There ARE some pieces of translation in the game.

The menu texts are now in English, the texts in the tutorial and in the ending sequence are now in English as well. The only pieces of japanese remaining are on the title screen with the big Kanjis Tsumi and Batsu left and right of the "To" Hiragana as well as the japanese subtitles during the english dubbed cut-scenes. It is now fully understandable for English speakers which was not the case at the time of its japanese release.

I know it because i have the japanese game pak at home Smilie. My only japanese game for me N64 if ya wanna know.

And now i downloaded it this morning. I was a bit disappointed about the 1200 Points stuff, and still think Nintendo are bastards making us pay THAT much for old games.

But yet it remains a big chance to taste a beautiful game which never hit western coasts at the time. And for those like me who still have their N64 and the game, it's an opportunity to understand "AT LAST" what is said in the game ending which had no voice acting in English but texts in japanese.

So i think that in the end, if you're a Tsumi to Batsu fan (like me), or simply a shooter fan, 1200 points may be a bit expensive but the game is worth this sacrifice... Thank God i had 1800 points left :cooldude:.

Might have to get some Wii points now...

Yes, it does seem a tad unfair to raise the price 200 points, but that is how it goes in business. In addition we are lucky to get this be 4 America if at all. now I will have to get 2000 points instead of 1000. But

^True, alot of these rare games would be fairly expensive even on ebay, unless you got lucky, I myself tend to download a classic whatever the price, if I was very fond of a certain game in particular, the price isnt even contemplated.
I suppose if its not worth it to you, its not worth it.

just download it. looking forward to a blast, to get mii of mysims for a while, building weird stuff is becoming addictive.

I got it. Smilie Just done the training so far, seems fun!

It's great fun a few levels in Smilie. It's not hard to see why this is so highly regarded. I'm glad I did not pay silly money on eBay. Jump-Button, that new channel could be up on monday morning, keep your Wii on just in case.

1200 points is perfectly fine for this game. Yes I just wrote that. Think about it.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

They have actually translated some stuff in it like the menus which I wasn't expecting them to do.

XBL Gamertag: James2t3

Want. Also shows a rare occurrence of Nintendo actually listening to what it's gamers want, rather than just guessing and getting it all horribly wrong. Hopefully this shall continue to be the company's stance in future.
