Industry News | Nintendo Expects Wii Shortages this Christmas

By Jorge Ba-oh 01.10.2007 12

With the Wii's popularity increasing Nintendo may have problems satisfying consumer demand as the machine reaches the start of its second year in the market this Christmas.

According to San Jose Mercury, Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime highlighted the problem isn't in producing the hardware, but more so consumer demand exceeding expectations. "We're working very hard to make sure that consumers are satisfied this holiday, but I can't guarantee that we're going to meet demand. As a matter of fact, I can tell you on the record that we won't. What I can tell you is that typically, our inventory is lasting a day... I don't think we will know when supply crosses with demand until after the holiday season."

Be sure to stick around for updates...

It would probably be smart to snap up three or four Wiis right now, and then sell them on eBay before Christmas. Probably give a very good return.

Actually thats not a bad idea Jacob... youd probabaly make a small fortune!

Anyway I dont think anyone expected to Wii to sell this much!!

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

my m8 trying to get a wii and he just cant get his hands on one

Nintendo still probably wouldn't be able to meet the demand for the DS this Christmas nevermind the Wii.

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

It may well be a good idea to buy another Wii and sell it on for double Smilie.

*rubs his palms*

Seriously this is a another shame, the first Christmas is understandable but the second is unforgivable when you consider what games will be out and the level of popularity of the console. Nintendo clearly have not ramped up output to a sufficient level. It's a lame excuse when you have to say the demand is too strong, that's what companies should strive for with their products and that should also be what makes you deliver.

Smilie cant they just make more they geting alot of cash so open up more lines

Great, and I literally today started working in Gamestation.

Kid - "Do you have any Wiis?"
Tim - "No."
Kid - "Do you know when you'll get them?"
Tim - "No."
Kid - "Can I preorder one?"
Tim - "No"

...

Manager - "Tim, can I have a word with you?"

It'll be fun fun fun-fun-fun. You watch.

Import a US one for

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Yeah, a US import is likely your best bet. Cheaper, and all the good games are out sooner.

It requires great courage to look at oneself honestly, and forge one's own path.

So is this the reason for the low Wii and DS sales in Japan? Cause it's kind of freaking me out...I like having ammunition to use in arguments.

You know I've never experienced any of these console shortages, we always seemed to be pretty well-stocked in Sydney.
