...Halo 3 Falls 79% as EA and Nintendo Counter

Your weekly UK Chart Round-Up brought to you by stat-man jesusraz. Remember, the images here do not reflect actual sales!

Say 'Halo' to the runners-up spot...

Despite the record-breaking release of Halo 3 last week, just seven days after achieving the mantel of '2nd Fastest Selling UK Game', Halo 3 has already dropped 79% in terms of sales. But how has the competition countered? Well, EA's powerhouse of FIFA 08 on all formats lifts itself up to No.1 to make this the third year in a row the game has topped the chart in Week 40. In fact, so strong is the football title that the PS2 edition alone has surpassed Halo 3's weekly sales this week. But THQ gets in on the positive action as well, with racing game Juiced 2 leaping 16 in sales. Let us take a look at the full chart...

Nintendo lingers once more...

Starting with the All Prices Top 40 chart, More Brain Training is happy to sit amongst the big boys, holding steady at No.6 as everything else goes crazy around it. In fact, even the original Brain Training is unfazed by the current chart action, lifting itself up six to re-enter the Top 10 at No.9. As for Wii Play, it only slips one, whilst Cooking Mama leaps back up seven to No.12 after looking like it was on its way out at last, and Big Brain Academy for Wii is up two spots.

On the Full Price Top 40 side, FIFA 08 is now No.1, with Halo 3 down to No.2, with Juiced 2 climbing two to No.3 and MySims on Wii/DS only dipping one to No.4 and Tiger Woods down one to No.5, whilst Sega Rally holds at No.6. The hype surrounding Pixar's Ratatouille (fantastic film

I said as much last week, there was never any chance at all that it would last.

Nintendo rules this industry Smilie

You're an idiot. Don't you realise their have completely different sales models? Most games like Halo 3 make almost all their sales in the first week, or even DAY. Of course games like Brain Training will stay up there because it's bought by non-gamers who couldn't give a flying fuck about the release dates.

Knighty, chill out. The insults are uncalled for.

Anyhow, you do have a point though in that a lot of Nintendo games with their wide appeal continue to sell as people get DSes or suddenly find interest. A game like Halo is something that everyone knows about, and that nearly all XBOX owners must have now. Thus sales are going to drop off once the hardcore have finished their mad dash to the stores.

And I think the 1 million+ users on Halo 3 every night speaks for itself.

Why is Juiced 2 at number 3?

That's exactly why I said it would not last, and then some Smilie.

Microsoft had strong intentions of selling it well into Christmas, with a 10m+ marketing budget they would hope so.

This is not a good start if that 10 million cannot prolong those sales even for a decent sustained period, it speaks volumes on their market being saturated with Halo3 now. They need to sell hardware, not Halo3, they need to sell more than units than the Wii, something they will likely never do anytime soon.

The Wii sold as many units as Microsoft did in 2 years in 9 months!, with running component shortages in Taiwan Smilie.

Go Wii!.

Go EA! for that matter, just give me some MassEffect that looks better with full DX10 support with shadermodel 4.0, as opposed to 2.0 support, cos then those characters will really come alive.

Well, yesterday DK: Jungle Climber hit Europe alongside the new Gloss Silver DS Lite...I wonder how that will change things on Monday's chart update. DKJC is a VERY good game (review later today, hopefully)...better than its GBA predecessor.

A lot better I hope. I am not interested in that silver DS at all, I would have loved to have got the Ice Blue one they now have in Oz. Although I have not seen it close up I really do not think I like the finish on it from what I have seen on pics..

Trust me there will be just a much playing Unreal Tournament 3 on the PS3 and PC next month. A wonderful game is that also. So good "the fight is over", to use a apt phrase Smilie.

DS online numbers are usually the number of connections in a month or something (not even unique users). Nowhere near 1 million online at the same time.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

To be honest, I don't see why it's called 'Gloss Silver' as it is actually quite dull when seen in real life. I held both that and the Metallic Rose DS Lites whilst in South Korea and wasn't impressed with either. I'd much rather see the Crimson/Black edition hit Europe soon.

I would prefer that colour combo above all, it's extremely sexy. A friend in the U.S got it along with PH not long ago. I guess I will get my hands on one also soon enough to be able to pass judgement on the silver one.

I do not dislike silver it's just a question of the finish. I have been told even that Crimson/Black combo has a matt Black which I was not aware of.

I imagine you are playing PH now, right?. If you have any impressions please post them in the thread. 1up were not exactly keen.

1UP's review was pathetic, tbh, slagging the game off for being too familiar...don't know what they're on about. It's most refreshing to play a Zelda and feel at home, yet really notice some fantastic new additions that fit perfectly into the adventure. I prefer it to Twilight Princess, in all honesty. I hear the game's already being pushed heavily on TV here in the UK (my work colleague's were telling me - I don't bother with TV much nowadays). It deserves to be the DS's first Top 40 No.1 for a long time (what WAS the last DS game to do that, NSMB? Certainly wasn't BT or MBT, nor was it FF3...HAS a DS game made No.1, come to think of it??).

Have you seen the video where they defend it?, collectively Smilie. I agree, point made with the other supposed best games on DS. It was a statement, they can try as they like to make it seems as though it was honest. To be fair I, well, you should watch the video they put up if you have not. I do actually agree with some aspects of what they say in that video but what they asian guy says is plain dumb. I will post it in the thread.
