Nintendo News | TV Schedule and Wii Shop Upgrade for Wii

According to Famitsu, the Wii's channel service is expecting some upgrades in the coming months with a TV schedule channel and an upgrade for the Wii store on the way.

Wii Shop Upgrade: Players can buy Virtual Console and WiiWare software for a Wii friend. The recipient will receive an alert and be transferred to the shopping channel to download their gift. The channel is set to arrive in December.

TV program schedule channel: Players can download a guide to their TV channels, due in Spring 2008.

"We think this will be a breakthrough in encouraging customers to spread news of fun games word of mouth. We also hope to spur more users to connect their Wiis to the Internet." Iwata noted.

TV Program... hm... would've been cool if you can actually watch T.V like freeview, kinda like what Sony is doing with the PS3.

Yeah being able to watch TV would've been a lot better especially since I have digital cable so I have no need for a tv scheduler. Being able to send VC games is pretty cool though. I just wouldn't know what to get my Wii friends like [LS] who has nearly every VC game or atleast most of the good ones.

The TV thing sounds pretty useful.

I don't really care that I have to press two or three buttons to get to the right channel. Smilie

So, does that mean everyone can get free Internet browser? Or will you have to pay again for stuff you already have? Still, sounds cool.

TV channel sounds meh, why would you wanna use that? I guess it's just as bad as News Channel though.

The gift thing is an ace idea. I've been hoping they'd do it on XBLA so that I can buy Space Giraffe for a few heathens.

I just wish the Shop Channel would have a preview so you didn't have to go into it (which can take ages) to see what was new. Sending gifts is a great idea.

TV listings could be useful if you can set reminders. No doubt they'll do something fun with it such as letting your Mii have favourite shows or something.

Two pretty nifty upgrades there. The gift one will be great for friend's birthdays - especially if you forget and then realize on the very day that you need to get a gift. Smilie

I will be like the Santa of the VC this Christmas if it's up in time. I have been wanting this for ages, I have even contemplated buying U.S Wii Points and giving the codes to people as gifts, this is going to be so much easier. Being able to choose what games you want to give and deciding the cost of each gift is great.

Expect a Christmas gift via your Wii J Tang and SuperLink Smilie .

What will happen in the case your friend already has the game? Will it get sent back to you & you'll get refunded? Smilie

Nintendo hurry up with the Stars thing! I need to buy Super Metroid for all the muppets that don't have it yet! Smilie

It will probably state you cannot download it as it is already part of your collection, if that happens the sender will likely be notified and have to send something else.

No need, I am fine, think of it as a reward for doing well in your exams, if not brilliantly Smilie .

It would be nice if the gift thing meant that you can send your already bought game to a friend nice you completed it or got bored of it. They'd never do it though.

When you buy Wii games despite having full ownership of the game they would never allow that. The VC would turn into a game swap service if so. The TV guide would save money on buying the Saturday paper or the Radio Times for me, I will find it very useful for sure.
