Nintendo Wii News | Capcom Defends Okami Wii Port

By Jorge Ba-oh 27.10.2007 3

Capcom's senior director of strategic planning, Christian Svensson, recently spoke on the upcoming Wii-port of Okami, and why he feels the project shouldn't have any extra content.

"If we wanted a cheap and dirty port, I could have turned around and picked any one of 50 houses and gotten it done for less and perhaps more quickly.

As I've said in prior interviews, we're getting the game up and running first. The game is enormous. If after we have everything working correctly, cleanly and as desired so as not to 'break' the amazing experience that is Okami, we will worry about potential enhancements.

Given that the only port we've done to date was [Resident Evil 4], which has a 90+ gamerankings score and provided AMAZING value for the platform, has this really been Capcom's modus operendi such that this allegation should be leveled at us? Zack & Wiki is getting better reviews than just about anything you'll see this year on Wii, except possibly [Super Mario Galaxy]. Shovelware is not what we do."

Thanks to 1up for the tip.

Never touched Okami on PS2, but if this is upgraded enough I might check it out on Wii instead...

Be fantastic if Okami came with extras.Smilie

That's fighting talk. They have given the game to Red Dawn who have made the fantastic God Of War CoO game on the PSP. I have total faith in this project. My only hope is that they they finish the game in time to add those extras, and if need be delay the project a touch to do so. I think at the very least they should be consulting with Hideki Kamiya now to see what he what ideas he would now like to see come to fruition. Kanji lessons would be sweet with Issun taking the piss out of you if you made mistakes.
