Industry News | Nintendo UK Speaks out on Hardcore Gamers

By Jorge Ba-oh 30.10.2007 31

Nintendo UK's General Manager David Yarnton recently spoke out on the company's approach towards hardcore gamers, and that they haven't been forgotten.

"It's important to know that we're not ignoring the hardcore gamer. They're still very important to us," Yarnton commented during a press conference in London this morning.

His comments stems from the bittersweet attention Nintendo's motion controlled box has received since launch. Critics have claimed that whilst the Wii has dramatically expanded the market, hardcore gamers are left with only few morsels to waggle their sticks at.

Speaking on the upcoming line-up, he reassured that "we have already catered on the Wii with Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario Galaxy, and on DS with the Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass."

Thanks to Pro-G and C3 reader Marzy for the tip.

I loved wind waker!!!!!
...

And Nintendo's big 4 will keep me occupied for ages anyway....but i guess for people who play more than me, it could be annoying...Smilie

Avoid Games Like the Plague, productivity++

I don't see how Zack and Wiki is considered a hardcore game. It looks good, but I certainly wouldn't call it a hardcore game. The way it's being marketed especially is geared far more towards scummy non-gamers

I think people are confusing the concepts of 'not minigame shit' and 'hardcore'. Zack and Wiki is just an adventure game, it doesn't have any massive demographic target like say Cooking Mama which is patronising sexist shit for women, or No More Heroes which is appealing directly to geek culture.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Yeah same here I could not care less about the rest of the past year, the games we are going to get soon will more than make up for it. Brawl seems like one of those forever games that when you get you know you will be playing it for years to come, and Mario Galaxy, is just around the corner Smilie.

This hardcore and casual thing is starting too really annoy me.
I remember casual games being GTA and Fifa the "non gamers " arrived and suddenly the chaves playing Fifa suddenly become HardcoreSmilie, it's all a shit load of fuck if you ask me.

Theres only two kinds of games, shit ones and good ones!

Battalion Wars 2 is turning out to be a great game from what I played so far. One awsome feature is while choosing the next stage in campaign mode you can spin the globe like on the weather channle.Smilie Not to mention online co-op & versus.

EDIT: This is a must buy for the so called hardcore.

I will be playing that game with you for sure just as soon as it gets released here. You should start a impressions thread when you have played enough.
