F-Zero GX Kept from Top Spot in Japan...
...PS2 Title Steals its Thunder!

UPDATED - Sales data for F-Zero GX has now come to light thanks to our friends over at Nintendojo. Unfortunately matters appear to have taken a turn for the worse, as the title is languishing in fifth position in the Top Ten, with lacklustre sales of 39,600 units so far. This is increasingly worrying when shown side-by-side with how F-Zero X on the N64 performed in its first week at retail. The Nintendo-only developed game sold through 56,457 copies, which itself was deemed a letdown at the time.

All that can be hoped now is that the US and European responses to the game are far more positive. Keep it here for the latest news on the situation.

In what has come as a great surprise to many, the Sega-Nintendo co-developed futuristic racing title, F-Zero GX, has failed in its attempt to conquer the Japanese gaming charts. Whilst official sales figures have yet to be revealed, the chart placings for the previous week show that the fourth iteration of the Tokyo Xtreme Racer series on the PlayStation 2 is the culprit holding F-Zero from the coveted No.1 position. Below is a full run-down of the other chart placings:

1. Shutokou Battle 01 (PS2, Genki, Release: 7/24/03)
2. F-Zero GX (GC, Nintendo, Release: 7/25/03)
3. Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 10 (PS2, Konami, Release: 7/17/03)
4. Kirby's Air Ride (GC, Nintendo, Release: 7/11/03)
5. Super Mario Advance 4 (GBA, Nintendo, Release: 7/11/03)
6. Tennis no Oji-Sama: Smash Hit! (PS2, Konami, Releae: 7/24/03)
7. Onimusha Tactics (GBA, Capcom, Release: 7/25/03)
8. Socom (PS2, Sony, Release: 7/24/03)
9. Meitantei Conan: Nerai Wareta Tantei (GBA, Banpresto, Release: 7/25/03)
10. Animal Crossing Plus (GC, Nintendo, Release: 6/27/03)

How this will effect relations between Nintendo and Sega will only become clearer once the actual sales data is available. Therefore, be sure to keep it here as we will bring you the news faster and more accurate than the majority of the competition out there!
