Nintendo News | Mario More Popular than Timberlake and Hilton

By Adam Riley 14.11.2007 16

In the run-up to the release of Super Mario Galaxy, Nintendo is continuing the wide array of promotional techniques by this time announcing how Mario is far more recognisable than many famous stars. Despite being featured in numerous popular magazines and appearing on TV regularly, a survey released today by Nintendo to celebrate the launch of Super Mario Galaxy on Wii has found that Super Mario is more recognisable than Paris Hilton and Justin Timberlake.

The survey was taken by over 1,000 adults, and 69% recognised gaming's most iconic Italian plumber, whilst 53% could put a name to the face of paparazzi favourite Paris Hilton and 51% could identify Justin Timberlake. Other notable stars that failed to be as iconic as Mario (in this rather skewed survey) included Beyonc

I would have thought mario was more popular than a guy on helium and a dog-loving-dyke!

I should think so, anyone around a certain age range can know Mario more than kids today, because he was so iconic back in the late 80s.

I know I'm not an adult, but I didn't know who Paris Hilton was until sometime last year when they kept on putting her in adverts or whatever. & Timberlake I only know 'cos he did the horrible McDonalds them song.

But I guess I'm not a celebrity person.

Mario ftw.

Mario's bringing sexy back..

HA paris hilton is in jail while mario is rocking the wii!Smilie

In other news, Nintendo is more popular than rape.

Nobody like Paris Hilton or Justin Timberlake, they are figures of ridicule.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Where does it say Mario was proven "more liked" than them?

It said that more people knew about him.

Oh, we are soooooo fortunate, that our hero is more famous then a windbag painted gold and a guy thinking he makes music!
Now we just have to convince people to stop finding refuge in crap-made entertainment like watching golden windbags in failing to put shoes on, walking a straight line or trying to do algebra.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Mario based sky Algebra (Super Paper Mario) FTW!

& the music Mario makes pwns Timberlake's crap. Smilie

I'm amazed that only 69% of people recognised Mario to be honest.

I mean...it's MARIO!

Well, depends on the age range asked doesn't it? young to mid-aged adults would probably recognize Mario, but older adults & pensioners may not.

Still, he used to be more recognizable than Mickey Mouse. Mario seems to be recognized everywhere, personally I'd be surprised if he was less well known than Paris Hilton or Timberlake.

...He has the advantage not to be named after a city.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."
