Nintendo Wii Media | Smash Update: Saki Amamiya Assists

By Jorge Ba-oh 22.11.2007 23

Sin and Punishment star Saki Amamiya joins Smash Bros. Brawl today as an assist trophy in today's exciting update on the official website.

Saki Amamiya appears from Sin & Punishment: Successor to the Earth! This title is currently available via the Virtual Console.

Saki stands on solid ground! He uses his weapon, the Cannon Sword, which combines a sword and a gun into one to slice and shoot!

He cuts repeatedly without mercy!

And shows off his magnificent jump!

Take this!!

As with the original title, he speaks in English.

He rivals just about any main character. There were many requests from users for his inclusion, and he IS pretty cool, so I did what I could to include him. After all, this game does let you enjoy a dream cast of supporting characters!

H-he has absolutely no problem fitting in!

Be sure to stick with C3 for updates...

pretty cool Smilie and yeah, he probably even would've fit as a playable char Smilie

OMG what a amazing update! Smilie.

I cannot believe this has happened!. They should whack in Red and Blue from Gunstar for good measure Smilie. This will be a favourite with me for sure. Thank you Treasure, this is definitely a nice surprise. If they ever bring out a new SaP game I want him the game proper!.

I guess there are still more to come with the unvieling of the SE FF character that is rumoured.

Argh! I wish this chap was a playable char.

I hope the unseen playable characters are amazing if characters like Saki are getting cut to be assist trophys.

Saki prolly would have been playable if SIn & Punishment got off the ground more than it did. If there's ever a sequel then we could seeh im or another main character in SSB4.

Red & Blue from GunStar may not be in it though, since arguably they're 3rd party characters (Gunstar started out on MegaDrive)

Sympathies to those who wanted Saki playable.

As for the next/last 3rd party character, personally I hope it's Bomberman. I don't want an SE character, I think Megaman is far more likely anyway.

But if there really is gonna be only 1 more 3rd party character, it'll be Megaman, or if I'm lucky, Bomberman.

If SE have a character in it, it'll prolly be Geno from Super Mario RPG.

There are going to be many of these assists that people will cry out for to be in the next game, it's such a tease having them in the game like this.

Red and Blue would be great I can easily see them working in Brawl even if it is a unlikely prospect. They don't have to be born on Nintendo to be in the game anyway.

I am pretty sure there is a SE chara to come, I thought that was well documented, or strongly rumoured at least.

I don't think Bomberman is likely myself, I think Hudson would more likely feature their original mascot Bonk.

It's hard to say who Capcom would put in, I would like to think it would be Megaman but given the wide array of great characters they have it's hard to say. Also there are simply characters that don't translate well into fighting games, as that one Megaman fighting game shows. Leon would be pretty cool I think.

Either Cloud or Sora get my vote from the S-E stable.Smilie

I agree, would be an awesome character to play as. Smilie

That's like saying SEGA would put in Alex Kidd instead of Sonic. Bomberman is far more iconic than Bonk is, at least now, if not always (IMO) Bomberman was also rumoured to be in Melee, and he's appeared in a crossover game with a Mario character before (Wario)

There have only been 2 times the Mario world has crossed over with that of a 3rd party character. Wario Blast (w/ Bomberman) & Mario & Sonic (/w Sonic) IMO I really think that says something. Also Bomberman & Snake starred in TV Fighters together. Bomberman is used to the crossover.

Red & Blue weren't born on a Nintendo platform, I know that, but it seriously limits the already incredibly limited 3rd party character list we have. Sakurai previously said "A maximum of 2 or 3". We already have 2, so we'll likely only get one more, if any. If we get more we'll be very lucky, and I think it'll have to be a very iconic character.

Leon would not fit Brawl at all. He uses a gun, his style is too mature, and he's only appeared in one iconic game for Nintendo.

Almost the entire classic Megaman series was on NES & SNES, not to mention Megaman has also been in crossovers before. Personally if there's one character who would never suit Brawl, it's Leon, Megaman is far more suited.

But Bomberman moreso Smilie (Please put in Bombu!)

Good points there superlink but on the Leon factor, i wouldnt expect him in myself, but for those reasons can you really justify having Snake in the game?

Snake can do close combat in the games aswell, and he's Konami's flagship/most famous character, not to mention he's been in crossover before, as has Capcom's Megaman, & not Leon.

Many people complain about having Snake in there too, but he's far more iconic than Leon, and suits the game more than Leon's "ultra realistic" style.

As much as I would adore Megaman in the game I know it's not going to happen, he has a arm cannon as a weapon and nothing else for close quarter combat. In respect to the possibility of Leon because of his character model he could be tweaked for brawl in a similar fashion as Snake is. How on eart could they implement Bomberman?, your thoughts?. At least if they has Bonk their original mascot of Hudson (Wii game on the way)they could do lots like giving him a classic caveman club to play with, as well as his standard headbutt.

Well, how COULDN'T Bomberman play?

Ask anyone who they've heard of, I gurantee you more people will know Bomberman's name than Bonk.

Bomberman could use his bombs, & his Punch, which he does have in some Bomberman games.

Besides, Samus has never used close combat in any of her games. Basically Megaman only being able to shoot is completely irrelevant.

Not being able to face up though, is a severe problem. Smilie

EDIT: All I can say is, if a company had the opportunity to promote their flagship character in the game of the year, who wouldn't? Noone would recognise Bonk, Megaman is easily more recognisable than Leon. Sonic doesn't = SEGA, SEGA = Sonic. They've basically got the character in there who lets people know who they are.

EMOOO! Anyway I've never played S&P well I dont think I have?!!?

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

Unless you downloaded it on VC (you don't have a Wii anyway) it's very unlikely, since the original only came out in Japan.

There have only been 2 times the Mario world has crossed over with that of a 3rd party character.
Mario Slam Basketball. Mario characters together with..... Square characters. Including Black Mage.

Black Mage still gets my vote for the last (?) 3rd party characters. The game could really use some more magic based characters.
Megaman is 2nd choice.
I don't know about Bomberman, he's not varied enough for my taste.
And no Leon please.

Good point, can't believe I forgot about Mario Basketball. Loved the Square characters in that. Smilie

So yeah, it would seem Mario likes to crossover with Square, I also remembered Iditaki Street.

But I think an FFI character wouldn't be important enough for Smash Bros, I think an FFIII, FFIV or FFVI character would be best...

Wait... Terra from FFVI... PLEAAAASE! Smilie

Forget Geno, I want Terra! Smilie

The character model and animations for Megaman would not allow the same freedom you could employ with the Samus one. I agree Megaman is more recognisable than Leon but that will make no difference, I think it will come down to who will be able to to fit into a fighting game of this kind well with all the movement and animations that is required. Megaman's are very limited. If they changed his character model so that it could accomadate the sort of moves that people would expect from any character in Brawl there would be a uproar among the fans of the series, including me. If he is going to be in the game the only way I can see it happening is if everything happens through his arm cannon as with the games.

Bomberman or Bonk?, it's hard to know, for oldies back in the day the Bonk games were the Mario of the PC Engine a console that while not so popular here was very popular in Japan. Who knows, either one would be cool with me.

I would like to see new versions of the games on the Wii. Bonk is coming for sure, the VC games have been very popular so they are making a Wii remake of the original game, it might be a entirely new game though.

I vote for Black Mage Smilie

man! they are wasting a lot of potencialy goog characters (gray fox), but anyway, maybe this means there is going to be a Sin and Punishment for the wii.

Having some of the old FF1 charchters as assists would be quite cool
Black mage summoning elemental chaos, white mage to heal you or your team? May be even randomly picking between cure-curaga magic so you may not get a big heal every time.

That would be very cool if it happened, it's easy for me to picture it in my mind.

From Capcom, I reckon Viewtiful Joe would be absolutely perfect. You could basically cut-and-paste him from one of his games into Brawl, and he'd be ready to go. Smilie

Viewtiful Joe would be good, but I still think it'll be their flasgship character.

Why the character model? They will obviously make a completely new one, Megaman would be as able to punch and kick as Samus, not to mention he could use his different forms to use different attacks, or he could use his saber.

Still, I don't see why him having combat moves would cause uproars from tha fans? Lemme think of some example here.

Were Samus fans uproared when she was given close combat moves? Maybe, but they did it anyway & the results are fine,

Same with Fox & Falco, they've never had close combat moves before, they always used guns or nothing in the games, much like Megaman.
