Nintendo News | Official DS Download Service Unveiled
Recent News
AM3, the company behind the GBA Movie Player, has signed an agreement with Nintendo, in conjunction with Dai Nippon, to bring a similar product to the Nintendo DS, along with a download service called 'DSvision'.
The product package itself will go on sale in Japan this coming January and includes a 512MB microSD card, the DS cartridge holder that fits into any DS as normal, plus a high-speed USB adaptor to attach to your PC when transferring files all for around £18. Following this, in March a service called DSvision will hit, with official downloads (books, comics, movies and music, it would appear) being available via the company's website.
AM3 and Dai Nippon have stated that they hope to grab at least 10% of the DS userbase in Japan, which is now over 20 million users, and feels Nintendo's efforts to promote Internet use amongst its consumers will help considerably (the dedicated Call Centres for Nintendo users to get online starts today in Japan). It is also expected that 300 downloads will be available for the DSvision service at launch on 6th March, with 1,000 additional ones a year after that, 3,000 after two years and a massive 10,000 titles available after being on the market for three years. The company is also thinking to the future as well, stating it plans to try and make it so downloads can eventually come straight over the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection for even greater ease of use.
Is this what everyone was hoping for, or will it merely lead to being another haven for pirates? Be sure to let us know your thoughts on the matter by posting below.

Link / SuperLink9It sounds great, for only £18 too, doubt it ever gets down here though, and if it does, it'll be like £50.

If you are one of the many complaining about lack of great Wii games, and you don't own Okami, then pipe down and go buy it.

noneBut that was because it had such a low capacity and basically came across as something rather cheaply made. This time it appears AM3 is taking things much more seriously, thus the joint venture with Dai Nippon and the big Japanese conference that took place a few hours ago...(yes, this is breaking news, by the way!).

noneI remember one thing that helped make PlayStation hardware so popular was the ammount pirate software, I hope Nintendo isnt thinking 'if we cant beat 'em, join 'em', as it didnt help DreamCasts cause.
Other than that Im hoping to see additional dungeons and story for existing Zelda games.

noneI love my GBAMP, and I already use for for homebrew. (and yes, I mean freaking homebrew, I havnt pirated a single game).
Comic Books work *really* well on the DS, the existing ComicBookDS program is a treat, especialy combined with;
moonbooks.net
Which lists legaly free comic books and movies in ds playable formats.
I see big opertunitys for AM3 if they can get the content for it.
Id particularly love it if they could do a deal with Marvals new online service.
Reading She Hulk on the DS would just rock.
(err...seriously...the new She Hulk is a fantasic comic...no..really....)

noneWell, that's only the starter pack offered during the trial run in January. AM3's considering offering it for free eventually, to those who subscribe to the download service on the website. And hey, there's nothing to stop you using your own memory cards. In the Press Conference they specifically talk about people using 2GB cards, so it seems it's not out of the question.

<(^o^)>So unlimited games for a subscription fee?
Sounds good to me

...but its probably going to be pay one by one...but hopefully downloads will be cheaper than cartridges as they don't have to have any factories to make the games.
