Nintendo DS News | Blue Dragon Plus Scan & Information

By Adam Riley 16.12.2007 19

Mistwalker has already seen its first Nintendo DS game hit the Japanese market in the form of A.S.H: Archaic Sealed Heat. Now another of its games, Blue Dragon Plus, has been uncovered. As stated in the original story post, it has been revealed in the latest issue of Jump magazine over in Japan that Hironbu Sakauchi-san's 'Blue Dragon Plus' for the Nintendo DS will be published by AQ Interactive (who is also bringing Away: Shuffle Dungeon to the market a month prior) in March 2008. The game will be a real-time simulation RPG, co-developed with Feelplus, and appears to be in the same vein as Heroes of Mana and Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings.

Thanks to GameFront.de the full scan from Jump can now be seen below, showing that once again Bird Studio is involved in the Blue Dragon project (artist Akira Toriyama-san's company). Check out the scan, plus the cropped shots now in the media folder at the bottom [ Click to Enlarge ]:

i heard it was meh but i want to try the ds one.

Feelplus have turned out to be a bit of a treasure-trove of illumini. Lots of ex Microsoft Game Studios Japan and Sacnoth creative staff.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

"real-time simulation RPG", WTF does that mean?

There is quite some contrast in opinion about it. I stayed away despite previously looking forward to it greatly. I was turned off by much of what i had read. I hope this is good though.

Remove simulation:
Real-Time RPG aka Kingdom Hearts, Zelda-ish gameplay etc. You get the idea. Well anyway I think that's what they mean.

zelda and kingdom hearts are a-rpgs (A for action) why couldnt they just say that.

Linkyshinks i thought it looked cool on 360 and i want to play it still coz i dont read reviews and would rather get my own experiences and have my own opinions. if i did listen to reviews i wouldnt have played the greatness that is killer7 (some sites gave it 2.5 out of 10) i give it an 8.5

Simulation RPGs in Japan are what we call RTS games, I think, but with a more RPG vibe. So think something like FFXII: Revenant Wings...perhaps. Hopefully it'll be clarified soon enough.

I hope this has real time weapon change as well.

Avoid Games Like the Plague, productivity++

I liked the relative easy-goingness of Blue Dragon, but in the end it was too old fashioned and the save points pissed me off and I haven't completed it.

The aforementioned Feelplus made Lost Odyssey (just out in Japan), which I really like the style of. Might give that a go. I've been playing Phantom Dust a bit which I quite like and I've always been meaning to try the Shadow Hearts games which are supposed to be ace - a lot of people from those teams are involved.

A better name for RPG would be 'stat-driven story game'.

The only 'stat' that Zelda has is health, but that does not mean it's stat-driven. It just means it joins the multitudes of action-adventure games that increase your health as you go through the game.

If an RPG was something you play a role in, well then you're fucked. In Doom, you play the role of someone who kills aliens. In Harvest Moon, you play the role of someone who is making a farm. In Beyond Good and Evil, you play the role of a spy/photographer person out to beat the corporation. In Populous, you play the role of a Shaman who wants to be a god.

Do I really need to continue?

Na sprite i see your point. and you proved it. sweet moves

I didn't like the 360 Blue Dragon. The Voice Acting was horrible and the soundtrack was quite poor for Nobuo Uematsu but it had nice graphics though.Smilie

I got Blue dragon bundled with my 360. I didnt even play it as I sold it because it didnt get every good reviews.
I cant stand Japanese RPGs. Especially when they are Mange as well.

-Have you any idea what it's like to be a Fembot living in a Manbot's Manputer's world?
-What?

i assume that you dont like kingdom hearts or the tales of...games series then. too bad i cant wait for either games to be in my ds

Hah, sorry Jump_button - I didn't check the forum posts before I updated the story! Smilie Got this larger scan from Gamefront.

I prefer the look of this to that of Away: Shuffle Dungeon. I really enjoyed Heroes of Mana and think FFXII: RW's cracking as well...but I have a feeling this will trump both of those!
