Nintendo News | Donkey Kong Country 3 Hits US Wii VC

By Adam Riley 24.12.2007 11

The latest update for the Wii Virtual Console retro download service has now hit North America, with three 'new' titles being added to the already extensive line-up. Check out what is on offer below:

BLADES OF STEEL (NES, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points)
With stick in hand and confidence brimming, you are looking to bring home the cup, win the MVP award, get on the covers of major sports magazines and date a beautiful model (not necessarily in that order). But soon you will learn that, in this league, nothing is ever given to you, and before you can reach your goals, you'll have to put the puck in the net and score some. You'll need both the artful skills of a finesse player and the bone-crushing brutality of an enforcer. Defend your own goal against unrelenting power plays, or put the pressure on your opponent's goalie and try a slap shot of your own. Don't forget to defend yourself when anger flares because the gloves come off and fists start flying. So strap on blades of steel and prepare to either make a name for yourself or be put on ice.

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble (Super NES, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)
Revisit Donkey Kong Island and join the Kong family for their latest adventure. The Kremlings have a mysterious new leader named KAOS and are up to their usual mischief, even capturing Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. Now it's up to Dixie Kong and the newest Kong, a giant infant named Kiddy, to rescue the two missing apes. They'll travel across previously unseen parts of the island in their search, and even take to the skies in a rocket at one point. Lucky for them, Dixie and Kiddy's powers complement each other (including Kiddy's talent for rolling like a barrel), so they form a powerful team capable of major Kremling damage. They're not completely on their own, either, since returning favorites like Funky Kong and Enguarde the swordfish provide help along the way. And in a series known for its abundance of secrets and high replay value, this entry doesn't disappoint, with enough hours of game play to satisfy Donkey Kong himself. Anyone else have a sudden urge for some bananas?

Rolling Thunder 2 (Mega Drive, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)
In this follow-up to the original classic, you are once again a member of Interpol's Rolling Thunder task force, and it's up to you to stop the return of the evil Geldra organization. Now known as Neo-Geldra and led by a newcomer named Gimdo, the bad guys are bent on destroying several valuable outer-space satellites. In this one- or two-player game, you can play as Leila or Albatross-both characters from the original-as you venture through several different levels, trying to put a stop to the nefarious efforts of Gimdo and the rest of Neo-Geldra. Use your bullets wisely and make Rolling Thunder proud.

Stick around for more updates...

It's the worst out the 3, but it's still good. Glad to see it on the Virtual Console.

Hopefully Rare will add some more of there games soon.

I, like many I'm sure, was hoping for something more significant. But I still have to get Pokemon Snap, so I'll get that as a Christmas present tomorrow. Oh, and Sin and Punishment! :cooldude:

3-Eternal Darkness

I don't consider DKC3 the worst of the series at all. If anything, it's one of the best. Mostly because it expanded on the already massive games that DKC1 and DKC2 were. In DKC3 there are loads of secrets and it's a fricking biatch to get 100% (or 101% or whatever they made it out to be).

Kiddie Kong was a moron though, and I much prefer playing as DK, Diddy and Dixie.

Oh, how I pray for the true DKC4...

you and me both brother

I loved the overworld in Donkey Kong Country 3.

The Banana Birds were a pain to gather!

I hope we'll finally get a true Donkey Kong Country sequel on the Wii in 2008. A retro-styled sidescroller with all the old animal buddies and the original 4 Kongs would be amazing - especially with interactive pointer-based elements.Smilie

As long as they leave DKC4 as it's supposed to be, rather than add gimmicky movement/touch screen controls, I don't mind which console it comes out for.

Nintendo did say back when the Wii was announced that a DK game is being worked on. I doubt that they meant the GC to Wii racing game DK Barrel Blast. Hopefully it's still being worked on, but whether it's DKC4 or not I don't know. If it's not, then it's gonna be a game designed for Wii controls, rather than probably being DKC4.

DKC2 FTW! Though I still enjoyed DKC3, all of em were great.

i loved this game as i loved ALL the series inlcuding DK64, i also loved the soundtrack and i even got the CD Kong In Concert it's an amazing cd!! one of the best soundtracks out there. i also would love to see DKC4 released on Wiiware would be great, nintendo could get those guys who left Rareware to do it apparently the guy who did the soundtrack still works for nintendo or is an individual dev. they could do some trully amazing nd epic games on Wiiware. i would love that! Nice one, definitely up for DKC3 Smilie, still a big fan of C2, but still all classics in their own right!
