Nintendo Wii Media | Smash Update: Share

By Jorge Ba-oh 28.12.2007 8

Today's first of two updates reveals details on how players can get in on the sharing action to exchange data with fellow Smash players. Wanna send a screenshot? Here's how..

I have a request for the many people who want to play over Wi-Fi! The first time you play the Wi-Fi modes, please be sure to set the Smash Service to ON.

Here in the Options...

You'll find "Smash Service."

If you don't turn this Smash Service on, you won't receive any data! I ask that you take great care not to forget this step.

Data Sent by Nintendo

Choose Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

In order to receive data sent by Nintendo, you need to first choose Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection mode.

You connect without incident. When you confirm the message...

Data appears in the applicable mode!

Things that have "Download" written on them were sent by Nintendo. Now, downloaded data from Nintendo will gradually be overwritten, so there's no need to worry about your Wii's memory running out.

Data Sent by a Friend

Whoa. A lot of stuff arrived. Nice.

When something arrives, you'll get a message on your Wii Message Board.

When you start up the game...

The data will be in its respective places.

Now, since this data comes from your friends, this is where you have to watch your remaining save memory! If the remaining free space on your Wii System Memory is running low, you won't be able to receive the data. Move old data to an SD card or erase it.

You can also send data to multiple friends at once.

It's difficult to put the joy of being able to exchange snapshots and stages into words. I certainly hope you will all enjoy it.

Be sure to stick with C3 for updates...

This seems simple enough. I may have a few problems receiving data from Wii friends from time to time. I hope Nintendo notify you with a Wii Message or via the game when somebody has tried to send something.

All seven languages of Smash Bros. Dojo will take a year-end holiday break from posting following 28th December. We plan to resume posts on 7th January.

Smilie I didn't notice that. I guess I can wait a weekSmilie

I hope this means there will be downloadable costumes or something later down the line.

howdy. I was wondering if any of you guys ever played Mario Vs Donkey Kong 2 which has an amazing level editor/sharing feature. If you wanna get an idea of what this feature is like, I highly recommend you try it. The problem with that game though is that it was released Sept 06' last year and Im afraid to say that I don't think one could really find friendcodes to trade levels anymore. That game is dead. Sadly....

Am I the only one who thinks being optimistic about downloadable content is far too much to hope for?

Well look at the positive elsewhere with Guitar Hero 3 on the Wii, and that's third party.

Yeah but this is Nintendo we're talking about Smilie

The ones who gave us friend codes

The ones who gave us a tiny HardDrive and expect us to swap our data to and from SD Cards before it can be read.

I see the Guitar Hero III thing as more of an Activision saying "Hey, the other consoles can have it, so why can't Wii?"

Simply because Nintendo has made it difficult to do so. Nintendo's promised innovative WiiConnect24 feature hasn't even allowed downloadable content yet, even though it would seem perfect for that.

I just think anyone thinking we'll get new characters, costumes or stages via Sharing is getting their hopes too far up.

Well I'm not getting my hopes up its just a thought, but your probally right since Nintendo isn't focused on online content.
