Nintendo News | Full DS Downloads NOT Coming to Wii

Update - Recently the New York Times published an article about an interview it held with Reggie Fils-Aime in which he supposedly stated full DS games could be downloaded on Wii. Simply it was wrong information. Nintendo has issued a statement about the fundamental error. Check it out below:

"An article about the Nintendo DS video game system in the Dec. 31 Business Day section of the New York Times incorrectly referred to future capabilities of the device. The statement that complete Nintendo DS games will eventually be able to be downloaded into the device via a wireless connection with the company's Wii game console is incorrect. Users can download games to play on Wii, and, in the future, the Nintendo DS will be able to receive demo versions of some DS games from Wii, but not the entire game. The demo will be erased once the Nintendo DS is turned off."

So clearly the NYT got confused, believing that WiiWare was the process of getting full DS games via Wii, which as we all know it certainly is not (well, not yet anyway, unless something changes in the future).

Stick around for further updates...

Original Story - In an interview with NYTimes.com, US Nintendo President, Reggie Fils-Aime has stated full DS games, as well as demos, will be downloadable via Wii's online connection in the future.

This backs up the official Nintendo flash cart speculation.

But this also just repeats what we've already hear about Everyone's Nintendo Channel.

I'm pretty sure demos of DS games were only confirmed and are currently o the Everyones Nintendo Channel so far.

Full DS games as in Retail ones, or as games like VC games/WiiWare games?

Add me on anything. I'm always looking for new friends/opponents/town visitors/chances to appear more popular than I actually am.

Sounds excellent.

Good. Great in fact.
Maybe something like Wiiware for DS? That would be great. Some kind of DRM is in order, methinks, for DS?

I'm looking forward to play DS demos right now. Go on, release this channel in Europe. And please, let me save this demo and not erase it out of memory when I turn off DS. I would like to save it on SD-cards and load it via SD into my DS...

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Good work by the NYT...there are something like four or five corrections made in that story! Ah well, guess mistakes happen to even the bigger organisations Smilie

Heheh...

Well, as far as I'm concerned it's good news anyway. I was growing very worried that the west would never see the Everyone's Nintendo Channel. Hopefully it'll be here soon enough...

Just depends how worthwhile the demos are really!

I just completed pokemon yellow! 151 pokemon seen and caught.
Surely that's worth a star?

Aww, what a shame.

Awww nevermind, when that DS download SD card makes a appearance that's when it will be possible.

Cubed3 Member

Of course, you can download full homebrew games right now with a flash device and DSOrganizer. Yet another case of "gotta do homebrew if you want to use the DS to its full potential."

Ha, thought so, it was too good to be true, and how would they have done it anyways... exactly. Too different of interfaces to work, so New York Times, you FAIL.
