Nintendo News | True Soulcalibur Fighter for Wii?

By Adam Riley 16.01.2008 12

In a recent interview, Wayne Shiu, Product Marketing Manager of Soulcalibur IV, stated that SCIV did not come to Wii as Bandai Namco did not want to offer a stripped down version of the game. However, a Wii-specific fighter based on Soulcalibur Legends' engine is a possibility.

Stick around for further updates...

Soulcalibur Legends engine .................... that was the gc one right?

SoulCalibur Legends = Craptastic Wii spin off.

It's a possibility, and the game we already have is a bit lame. They're just saying a more formal version on: "TAKE THE ENEMY BEHIND ME, I CAN'T SHAKE 'EM!"

Peppy is not amused.

Basically: The Wii can't handle it.

Well there's a surprise. Smilie

Stripped down means lower quality graphics.

It could handle everything else, perhaps remove online because they dont like the friend code business, but if its a decent engine it should scale properly.

So, since they didnt want to give us a stripped down version of the game, they gave us a totally HORRIBLE game (legends)

Anyway

stripped down version > Legends

I wouldn't of minded a stripped down version, it would be alot better than legends, but using the legends engine would make it look worse than the GC soul calibur II.

I doubt the online would be that bad, if nintendo introduced a system where you can exchange friend codes with a person u just faced. it'll be worth a try.

Good grief. All they have to do is make a Soul Calibur style fighting game set in the Zelda Zelda universe with all the production values and quality we've come to expect from the Soul Calibur series (well, before Legends). They'd practically be printing their own money. Idiots.

Chance favors the prepared mind.

Legends sucked ass. I feel Legends suckiness will spread to this other game. I'd rather have an updated version of SCIII on Wii.

I agree, SCIII on Wii with Link please, that'd be excellent.

...and Zelda/Sheik and Ganondorf! Smilie

Oh well; I stopped caring about Soul Calibur when I heard about Darth Vader.

Of course, that's just an opinion.

As crappy as the Legends-engine looks, please bear in mind, that Legends uses big outdoor levels. Battle-stages for a fighting game are much less polygon-heavy, so a fighting game should look far better then Legends. As has been done for Gamecube with Windwaker's engine, which was reused in Twilight Princess, but in that case it was more a change in textures and renderfilter (celshading) then polygon count.

But I am not amused. IF they scratch a whole bunch of graphical greatness out of this engine, then they can rest alive, but if not then... then I will not care for SC-fighting on Wii and mourn for a proper sequel.

Wii can handle it, but not every booby-waggle and hair-swish you see on PS3. But it hasn't to. Just check SC2, it's still graphically wonderful!

I find your lack of faith disturbing!
