Nintendo News | Worms: A Space Oddity Has Gone Offline

By Ben 16.01.2008 30

Quick News: Worms: A Space Oddity, the first Worms game to grace Nintendo's shiny Wii, has been confirmed as having lost its online components, according to a recent interview betwixt IGN Australia and Team 17, the developers. Local multiplayer remains, as do the wacky Wii gestures that'll keep it a unique entry to the series. Bad news, it seems.

Why on earth have they canned online mode? Worms is one game born for online play and I'm extremely disappointed at this.

Big mistake by Team 17, I feel this is.

Smilie

Absolutely no reason to get it for me now... Sorry, Team 17 failed. Smilie

Why? How did they lose it? Drop it down the toilet or summat? It makes no sense, the DS and PSP versions are online, why not the Wii one? Good job Team 17.

Big mistake, a big drop in sales imo. Then they'll stop bringing em out on Wii. Smart!

If it's not online then what's the point? Might as well play worms on the PS1.

Yeah, play n>10 year old Worms games on PC, they have better graphics anyway. :-/ And better pretty much everything, and online that doesn't really work, but hey.

Or get Open Warfare 2, Handheld online Smilie

I think it's rather ridiculous, but in all honesty Team 17 are usually good so I'm sure there's some very understandable reasoning behind this decision. [/blind faith]

Its TURN BASED.
There is no lag to worry about, just simply swap data on players last positions and status's.

Gezz..theres no excuse for this.

Why couldnt they just delay? Lots of games overun development.

Look at the difference between the first and second worms games on the DS. It was huge.
Quality comes from giving time to development. Make a better game now and you will get more sales.

AND DUMP THE DARN MINIGAMES.

Even the worms in my cats arse are online.

There's only one reason i would have bought this tired franchise, and thats the thought of playing other people online. They've f***ed up big style with this.

I'm doubting it, the Wii's incredibly easy to please target audience will buy it no problem. Smilie

Of what is "f'ed" an abbreviation? Smilie

And also I've decided now to get the XBLA version. I was waiting on it thinking I'd be able to have an online-lol and an online-giggle with the Wii version but this is no longer the case...

And the game looked pretty good, what a waste.

It'll be shit anyway, who cares.

I think Super Link could be right. I think many people in posession of the Wii will still buy Worms, especially as how many families own the console.

But clearly it won't do as well as it could if it had online.

All I can say is, what. The. F**K!! What the hell is wrong with all these frick'n 3rd parties and their desire to f**k over the Wii version of a game!

"Let's leave out online functionality for the Wii version!" seems to be the new, "Let's give the Wii version PS2 quality graphics PLUS a shitty framerate!". And lets not forget the infamous, "Lets give the Wii version poorly thought out and implemented motion controls!". Bastards.

I CAN NOT believe this is the norm now. For the hottest selling system around the world?! Nintendo needs to reign in these freak'n 3rd parties.

Chance favors the prepared mind.

3D worms? Shit. No online? Shittter.

Well, it's actually 2D Worms, but yeah, PC Worms games from early 1990s are better anyway. Smilie

No online, no sale. Huge mistake. Why announce it as online and then retract it? Why not just delay it until you can fulfil your promise?

Yeah, now it's not like anyone would care if they even cancelled it... for all I care, delay it for 2 years and then give it a good online system. I'd be happy. :/
