Excellent! Master System! Smilie

What was the system called in Europe? Or was Master System the European name?

Wickkkked! Smilie

I mean, I'm not sure of any titles I've wanted to get, but the support is great news Smilie Handheld titles on Wii? Hmm...

Whats MkIII? Can't say I've ever heard of it...

Behold, the Sega Mk III:

Smilie

And some details from Wikipedia:

"The Mark III was released in Japan on October 20, 1985 to compete with the Nintendo's Famicom, following on from the SG-1000 Mark I and SG-1000 Mark II. The Mark III was built similarly to the Mark II, with the addition of improved video hardware and an increased amount of RAM.

The system is backwards compatible with earlier SG-1000 titles. As well as the standard cartridge slot, it has a built-in slot for "Sega Cards", which are physically identical to the cards for the Sega SG-1000 "Card Catcher" add-on.

The Mark III was redesigned as the Sega Master System for release in other markets. This was mainly a cosmetic revamp; the internal components of the console remained virtually the same. The redesigned console was itself released in Japan in 1987, but with the addition of a built-in Yamaha YM2413 FM sound chip (this had been an optional extra on the Mark III), Rapid Fire Unit, and 3-D glasses adapter.

Sega Master System game cartridges released outside Japan had a different shape and pin configuration to the Japanese Master System/Mark III cartridges. This may be seen as a form of regional lockout.

Neither the Mark III nor the Japanese Sega Master System were commercially successful, due to strong competition from the Nintendo Famicom. The final Japanese game release was Bomber Raid, on February 4, 1989.

So it wasn't really released outside of Japan, but kind of was at the same time since it's basically a Master System! Smilie Anyway, it's best selling game was Alex the Kidd.

SEGA's old mascot eh? Smilie

If he was in Brawl I'd main Sonic just so I could beat him up Smilie (I'm really into these Brawl grudge matches aren't I? Smilie)

So does this mean we'll see MKI, II and III games all in one console? Seeing as Master System = MKIII = Game Gear. They're so obscure... even moreso than the MSX (where the hell is that anyway?) and the NeoGeo.

Excellent! I've been wanting this for a bit. Now they need to do Game Boy games...

I cannot think of anything I would want from any of these platforms. Alex Kidd lol, I remember that Janken/(Rock, Paper, Scissors)crap.

The Mk11 looks a bit like a white PS2 from the front.

Have a shufty through this list and you may be pleasantly surprised how many games you might actually consider...

Yes, jesus. My point. There are pearls below the surface you jsut have to be prodded to. Buy Alex Kidd in Monster Land and so on. There were some great games. I never had one, thou, as i was too little and too poor (being a kid, you know). So maybe I will find some treasure there...

Wonderful news, Thanks, Sega!
Price is okay in comparision (comparison? Comparisson? comparrisonn...?! dammit!) to the other VC systems, but overall 2 EUR too high - meaning should be 300 and 400 Wii points.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

thats because that image is a PS2 lol.

Real MKIII

Fucking yes!!! OMG! Master System, the beauty!

Alex Kidd In Miracle World is a must. Smilie

With game gear games, does that mean playing them like you do on Sonic Adventure DX? Cause they were crap. Too stretched or too tiny.

Awesome!! It's about freak'n time!! Now we need GameBoy, GameBoy Color, Sega CD, & 32x games! lol Smilie

Chance favors the prepared mind.

There's actually loads of great Master System games. The Master System was considerably more powerful than the NES as well, so although it's 8-bit, the games don't look like crap.

Does anyone else think that really looks like on old fat PS2 in white? I mean, if you block out the stuff on the top of it, and look at the controller ports, it really does!

THAT'S BECAUSE IT IS A FUCKING PS2! LOOK! It even says Sony down the side. Look underneath it.

Smilie

Crikey, it does as well! You can see where Sony stole the PS2 design from.

Blade's already posted the real Mark III.

I used to have a Master System a long time ago. The only games I can remember are Sonic and Alex the Kid. I don't think I liked any of my other games. But my memory of it is vague.
