A quick overview of the market scene…

Last week saw Nintendo take the Individual Chart No.1 with Wii Play, but this week the Company is usurped at the top by Capcom and its Devil May Cry 4 title on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The third entry, which was exclusive to the PlayStation 2, arrived three years ago, but never managed to grab the coveted chart-topping honour. The split over both formats went in favour of the Xbox 360, with the lion's share (61%). Meanwhile, SEGA's delayed release of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games on the Nintendo DS helps the game jump back up two places, up 85% in overall sales. Chart Track UK this week reveals that the Wii edition racked up a phenomenal 500,000 unit sales alone in its first seven weeks on sale in the UK, which given SEGA's target of four million units across DS and Wii worldwide goes to show just how the prediction was nowhere near as far-fetched as many originally believed.

In at No.3 is a real blast from the past, as Turok re-emerges on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 thanks to Disney-owned Propanganda Games, with the memory of the Nintendo 64 classic from Acclaim ten years ago just a distant one. The flurry of new games pushes EA and Criterion's Burnout Paradise down three to No.4, whilst Oxygen Interactive hits home with a surprisingly strong entry. 'PDC World Championship Darts 08' was released three weeks ago on the PlayStation 2 and PC, but failed to make any mark whatsoever. Now, though, with the arrival of the Wii version, people eager to use the Wii controller as an actual dart have shot out and snapped up enough copies to launch it into the Top 40 for the first time, in at No.6! Elsewhere, SEGA's The Club on Xbox360/PS3 is new at No.9, Eidos' 'Conflict: Denied Ops' on Xbox360/PS3/PC is in No.11 and the new DS brain training effort from Nintendo, 'Professor Kageyama's Maths Training', starts strong at No.16.

Sadly, Ghost Squad falls from No.15 to No.35 and Zack & Wiki has disappeared altogether as Nintendo's hold on the Top 40 is 'reduced' to 21/40!
