Silicon Knights Developing New "Psychological Thriller"

Posted by By (jb) 8 Number of reads 32763

Silicon Knights has been granted a $500,000 investment to develop a "psychological thriller" for next generation systems.

The studio, of Eternal Darkness (GC) fame, was awarded funding by the Ontario Media Development Corporation to create a prototype that would be marketed to potential publishers, according to Toohuman.net.

"We believe that Ontario, and Niagara in particular, is an excellent place for a company to thrive, and, with the OMDC's funding through the Video Game Prototype Initiative, it clearly shows that the Ontario government is on the same page. Ontario's best natural resource is our people, and with all the great universities and colleges in Ontario, there's an abundance of bright and creative talent. Most of Silicon Knights' team are graduates of Ontario colleges and universities, and our team members are the best and brightest in their fields. This grant will encourage this great talent to stay within Ontario.

Denis Dyack, President and founder of Silicon Knights.

The project is said to be ready by 2010. No platforms or further details were specified, aside from the game being targeted for all "next generation" systems.

Could Eternal Darkness 2 (or similar concept) be on the cards? Be sure to have your say in the comments section below.

I doubt that this is ED2. I think Nintendo has the patent for the Sanity System. Secondly, Miyamoto, the developer of the pokemon series, and other people from Nintendo worked side by side with Silicon knights on the project.

The president of Silicon knights details this in a video interview at IGN, its called a Retrospective Special.

This won't be ED2, I'm sure.

ED is owned by Nintendo and if SK are developing something for "next gen systems" then it can't be ED2 seeing as ED could only come to a Nintendo console.

I wouldn't be bank on this game coming to Wii either. It might, considering developers are finding it harder to ignore this money making machine now, but going off of what they said when they left Nintendo, I'd guess this is a PS3/360 only project.

Still, they are a third party now so anything's possible.

Could be a similar concept to ED, or revolve around it somehow - would be good to see this project coming to Wii or DS in some form.

$500,000 is not enough for a game, it could be a concept/prototype that leads to ED2. (which they can make, as long as its for a Nintendo system).

They have $1000,000 to make 2 games.

So when they say "all" they dont nesscerly mean both games are for all.
One could be 360,PS3, the other Wii.
Or well, any combo.
Maybe one is for DS, the others for home consoles.

Id love a new ED sequal, and this is encouraging.
Nothing here rules it out, or states it firmly.

A new physcological horror is all we know.
