More Mario Kart Wii Info Emerges

By Ben 19.02.2008 17

Since the announcement of the title (which we all expected, anyway), not much information has been spilled about the more particular details - the tracks; the classes; the characters. In a recent hands on conducted by IGN, we finally get to see what we should be expecting sometime later this year. A few snippets include:

  • Wii Remote, Wii Remote + Nunchuck, Classic and Gamecube Controller support.

  • The same three classes: 50CC, 100CC and 150CC, with some twists. There are also 12 racers per game instead of the previous 8.

  • The apparent removal of any ability to 'snake', as well as a different boosting system for the recently confirmed motorbikes.

  • Ability to race as a Mii.

  • New powerups, and warnings via the Wiimote speaker of incoming attacks.

  • Confirmed new in-game "Mario Kart Channel", with leaderboards, rankings, tournaments, weekly challenges and up/downloadable ghosts.

  • WiFi battle mode.

  • Ability to play as Shigeru Miyamoto.

  • Okay, that last one isn't true, but still, there are a lot of new features sure to please all. Click here for the full article over at IGN Wii.

Sounds good, just hope there aren't more shit characters like Baby Peach.Smilie

Happy about Mii support although it would have been nice if Brawl had Miis aswell. Smilie

    Miis should be EVERYWHERESmilie

it would be really stupid if you could fight as your mii in smash bros, the point of smash is fighting as all those diferente characters, not as yourself.

    no snaking, yes!!!!!

I thought Mii's in smash would be well funny.

Sounds promising to have 12 racers in a race. I wonder how many characters there will be in the game in total then. I quite liked Double dash's roster, so even just that would be great.

Im intrigued to find out the new boosting system though, hope it doesnt ruin it altogether

    yes snaking, no!!!!
errr... or the other way Smilie

looking forward to MK Dabburu dashuru 2 like crazy!

Just follow the link for the info on that. There's a lot more there that would be kinda unethical to just copy and paste here...Smilie

Ability to play as Shigeru Miyamoto.

You can just make a mii of him sure.

This really is a next gen game, bloom lighting! :p

I'm actually quite looking forward to this.

Cool, no more snaking. I snaked constantly in MKDS. Put me miles ahead of everyone who couldn't do it. Made the race too one-sided, IMO. And it hurt my thumbs after a while. Sure, I could just not snake...but once you know how...it's almost impossible NOT to do it all the time. Smilie

    *gape* Motorbikes? Motorbikes!? MOTORBIKES!?

IT'S FRIGGING MARIO KART FFS! WHY DOES IT NEED MOTORBIKES?

    *cough*

    I'm done.

Gamespot also confirmed that their are 32 tracks (16 classic and 16 new) and that 50cc is Kart only, 100cc is Bike only, and 150cc is Kart and Bike.

This whole motorbike buisness was revealed like, 3 months ago? Where have you been?

The same three classes: 50CC, 100CC and 150CC, with some twists.

Whoah, a twist? What on earth could that be? Maybe they'll have one that's just like 150CC, but all the courses were flipped! It'd be a like a mirror, what am amazing mode that would be!

And the motorbike thing is new to me as well! Smilie

12 racers sounds a bit hectic to me, but I suppose if F-Zero can have 30 then 12 can't be that bad.

Amen to that brother. Smilie I LOVED the dual character per kart setup in MKSmilieD and I can't wait for Ninty to bring it back. At least as an alternate game mode.

Unfortunately, it's looking like MK:W is not going to have it. Smilie

    Chance favors the prepared mind.

Yes Mecha!! Finally, some Double Dash love.

What? Why no snaking? Lamo. Anyways, disappointing not to see 200 cc

Wii Remote, Wii Remote + Nunchuck, Classic and Gamecube Controller support.

Ah...there it is again. Nintendo obviously doesn't have faith in motion sensing.

Anyway, what sane person would actually play with the Wiimote now? You'd get killed online trying to play with that. Although I don't know how the warnings on the Wiimote are going to work with the Cube controller seeing as how it doesn't have one.

The Mario Kart channel sounds bloody awesome! It's good to finally see Nintendo pushing community features a lot more with Brawl and Mario Kart. Tournaments? Hell yeah! Smilie

THANK YOU! Thank god Nintendo for using common sense and getting rid of snaking!

Yeah I stopped playing Mario Kart DS online just because of the snaking. It's like everyone I played against could do it!

50cc/100cc with Kart/Bike only sounds really lame... Smilie 100cc is my favourite mode!
