Mario Kart Wii Receives No Text Chat (Update)

Update: According to CVG. we won't be receiving text chat. According to Nintendo of America, the European division was telling a few lies and apparently only predetermined phrases can be used, no lobbies or chat rooms.

    Who's the weakest link?

    Original Story -

With Mario Kart power sliding its way to stores in just over a month's time, it's been revealed that gamers will be able to chat online...using text.

According to Kotaku, players will be able to create chat-rooms for friends (who have been added by friend codes presumably) and most likely use USB keyboards to type away.

Will voice chat eventually turn up with Nintendo's upcoming Pay and Play service? Hopefully.

OMG NO! Thats just too stupid. How can u accidentally lie about summin like that. Nintendo is starting to lose me. They grabbed me with the wii but now... i have a ps3 and at least Sony isnt a bastard about their games. Jesus, I just want a game where nothing happens that messes it up! Be it price or release date. Sounds pretty difficult to me.
My pictures wont appear so heres a smiley

Nintendo really need to get their PR straight - first DVD region cockups, dodgy announcements, fake dates and now this... sigh.

    Online!

\"Why can\'t they just put a parental lock on it and have a warning with the game manual and when you change the settings: \"Using the voice chat function will allow the player to contact anyone playing the game online. If you do not wish to contact or be contacted by strangers do not use this function\"\"

The eplictic warnings all over manuals didnt stop them being sued for that stuff.

No, what they need is some secondary registration thing that \"unlocks\" a wii in \"adult mode\"

Would be a pain, but at least it would only need to be done once.

    \"
Whats the diffrence between text and voice at the end of the day your communicating does voice chat contain better molesting abilities or somthing!?\"

Text can be filted better then voice can.
(as anyone that attempts to swear in an MMO knows too well, you have to invent increaseingly bezire ways to do it).

My personal preferance, is to go sci-fi and say \"frell\" or \"smeg\" ect :p

You don\'t need to swear to molest do you? and i\'m sure that many internet paedophiles use chatrooms and msn and the like to do the majority of their molesting, no? Sure, hearing their voice will break their ruse of being 14 years old. Anyway, why filter text or voice when with your friends? Imagine having some person monitor the conversation or limit what you say in real life if you were playing in the same room. It\'s ridiculous nannying.

It better not be predetermined for friends, 42 all time classic allows you to send your own personal messages and drawings (of knobs) to your friends and then has the predetermined phrases for the paedophiles.

p.s. Farscape was bollocks on a stick up a fat man\'s arse. And I watched almost it EVERY day.

p.p.s. will anyone ever see this considering a new post in news doesn\'t bring it to the top anymore?

    @ Darkflame

If Nintendo put warnings in manuals, (and in games themselves) and a sort of agreement, then people have no right to hold Nintendo responsible, only themselves. Online gaming is not \"for\" kids anyway.

Nintendo: \"It is parent\'s responsibility to keep an eye on what their children do on WiFi play, you will not hold us responsible\"

    Perfectly reasonable, problem solved.

Lawyer: \"I want to sue Nintendo for getting someone to swear at my client\'s 2 year old girl\"

Nintendo: \"Pfft, if those idiots had read the agreement then you wouldn\'t have to have come all the way down here mr Lawyer\"

Lawyer: \"I am so suing them. I missed The Big Band Theory because of this\"

    Nintendo: \"Go get \'em tiger\"

    Lawyer: \"RAWR!!!\"

Sucks majorly. Still, doesn't bother me. I'm not an online gamer anyway. So long as you can preset 'lol', 'epic win', 'epic fail' and 'rawr', most people will be sorted. Smilie
