Capcom Talks Street Fighter IV on Wii

By Adam Riley 27.02.2008 14

Capcom has once again hinted at Street Fighter for Wii, with the company's Yoshinori Ono talking openly about the upcoming arcade fighting title and the possibilities of plans in the future:

"Street Fighter IV, as it stands now, would be well-suited for the higher-level platforms. But the game doesn't have to have these visuals in order to be fun. We could go, potentially, to the Wii. We could make it on Game Boy, for all we know right now. As long as the rules are the same, that can be independent of the visuals. So we're not going to be limited by any hardware specs; we're going to aim as wide as possible.

"This hearkens back to what Miyamoto said at a previous E3, that the evolution of console technology really is independent of fun, games aren't getting any more fun."

Would you be happy with a visually scaled-back version of the game, though?

It looks pretty damn good in 2D anyway. Im more excied about street fighter HD remix than SF4.

-Have you any idea what it's like to be a Fembot living in a Manbot's Manputer's world?
-What?

I'd be happiest if there was a DS version of the game, as the Wii is already getting its fighter, and aside from importing Jump Superstars, the DS still needs a good one.

I don't think SF4 looks that advanced on the higher spec consoles. HD remix looks awesome.

Yeah if it comes to Wii I wouldn't be that interested since Brawl is on it's way, but it gives Nintendo of Europe something to look at.

I would feel like the Wii was appreciated if there was a SFIV spin off, or some sort of SF game on Wii. Capcom are smart chaps, they can probably think of an awesome control scheme. Either this or a nice SF game on Wiiware. And DS needs a good fighter or two.

It's a shame smash ain't coming to DS. It would work nicely

Heh, Smash is a console game... and 3D Smash wouldn't work on DS, it'd have to use sprites to work smoothly if you ask me, for which there's already Jump. Not too hard to get your hands on either, Japanese or not.

OnePiece has the same kind of fighting and higher platform mechanics as Smash and uses 3D models. N64 is weaker than DS and that had fully 3D smash.

Any SF4 on Wii would be great, but it would be awesome on the DS.

It\'s interesting to hear Capcom thinking like that. I agree and if they can pull off Streetfighter 4 on Wii, I may be interested (being not so much of a fighting gamer).

If they are using all their wits and make great visuals working on Wii, then it\'s okay not to look exactly like the \'great consoles\', but what we all hate are cheap ports with easy ported visuals. But Capcom gives a great deal for Wii, since they give us Okami and Resident Evil - last of which had no great visuals, thou, since they now look outdated. But the port of RE4 was flawless in gameplay.

/edit: It\'s wonderful to hear publishers say \'we try and will and had the demographic and the cash would be okay\' then \'no, Wii is only for kiddies-stuff\'. That makes me warm an fuzzy inside. Nintendo fanboy\'s cuddling bear...

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Man I just hope that if they bring a new Street Fighter game to the Wii that Capcom does it right. Don't do what Bandai/Namco did and give us a game like Soul Calibur Legends. What utter garbage that was. I want a real Street Fighter, fighter!

Since much of the gorgeousness of SFIV is in the art style, the Wii could definitely handle it. I'd suggest that Capcom include a peripheral plug-in that puts a 6 button layout over the top of the current 1 and 2 buttons. That'd be perfect. No point in trying to change the controls, which are really the core of the game.

Nice - wouldn't mind seeing this on the Wii, definitely.

Classic controller would work pretty well imo, GC support also. A USB controller or Wii-remote attachment would be awesome.

I would be definately buying SF4 if it came out for wii, if it has online play, classic controller/gamecube support, aswell as a wii-mote set up. This could be the best fighting on wii. Playing DBZ:BT3 has let me live my Kamehameha dreams. Come on capcom, let live my hadoken and shoryuken dreamsSmilie The DS should also have a SF game, PSP has a SF. And also SF SD remix on Wiiware? im sold...
