Play Import Nintendo Wii Games - Freeloader Arrives!

By Adam Riley 28.02.2008 41

At last Datel has unleashed the beast that is the Wii Freeloader! Anyone fed up of waiting for their beloved Wii games to come to their region (Fire Emblem is a good example, in the case of PAL territories), will be pleased to know that the UK outfit has finally sorted out its Wii Freeloader, a simple disc swapping device that allows games from any region to be played on your Wii console:

"This is the one you've all been waiting for! Wii FreeLoader lets you play ANY region of Wii or GameCube game on your Nintendo Wii! At last, you can import games from other territories and play them on your Wii…

"Videogamers the world over get really frustrated when games are released in other territories long before they reach the shops in their home country, if they ever get released at all. You want to play that blockbuster survival horror which is out in Japan three months before it hits the shelves elsewhere. What about the soccer or F1 sim which only gets a European release or a gridiron football or NBL baseball game that's never released outside the States? Or maybe you bought an imported Wii because you wanted to get it early, and you now want to play games from your own region without buying a second machine. Well, now you can. With Wii FreeLoader, you can play ANY region of game on your Wii!

"Wii FreeLoader is really easy to use. Simply insert your FreeLoader disc and load it in the usual way. When the drive stops, eject the Wii FreeLoader disc and insert the game, which then loads and plays just like it would on its own region of Wii. It's as simple as that!

"Wii FreeLoader is 100% unofficial, but as it requires no modifications to your console, it does not invalidate the warranty. As well as letting you play Wii games from all regions, Wii FreeLoader also works with imported GameCube games when played on your Wii. It won't work in a GameCube console, though

Anyone for importing Brawl, I know I will, along with NMH. What concerns me though is Brawls online play, what will it mean for the localised play, if anything?

Just saw the 9.99 price tag Smilie

One Piece Unlimited Adventure...Brawl...playing my Jap 'Cube games through component...can't wait to get my mitts on this. Smilie

I'd try and find it somewhere other than the Codejunkies/Datel site, though, as their postage costs are bloody ridiculous! Smilie

14th March?

Well I ordered one off CodeJunkies anyway, might be able to find one in retail (I need 2, one for me and one for a friend)

Brawl soon. Smilie

And with Brawl you'll prolly only be able to play friends in your region. People who's imported have said that they can't get any random matches, and find it hard to play matches with friends very far away. I guess that's because the servers aren't up for long distance just yet, maybe after it comes out in US.

This.

I think its the sane person's approach...and the approach for people without much money to flash about.Smilie

Just pre-ordered a US copy of Brawl! With this and the freeloader, my life is complete! Smilie

Don't really like disc-swapping but it's better than nothing. If only the disc could install a freeloader channel, it would be perfect.

XBL Gamertag: James2t3

I think I'll do the same, especially with the risk of buying the disk and a couple of American games only to have Nintendo lock the Freeloader out...

Lol, if this works then NoE may have problems if releasing Brawl months away.

May wait a bit and see what happens, tis more risky with the Wii updates.

Anyone remember that remove PAL disk, insert NTSC disc glitch that was discovered a while ago? I think this Freeloader is merely an extension of that, and if it is, it'll be bloody hard for Nintendo to block it.

Plus I doubt Datel would bother putting in the time and effort in making a freeloader for Wii if it could be so easily blocked.
I heard mention somewhere that Datel would offer downloadable files to SD Card in case of a Bricking Firmware update.

Surprisingly enough, I think I'll skip this for now. I do want to play Brawl, but its a question of money, especially since NMH, MKWii and Wii Fit are out soon, and to be honest I don't mind the Brawl wait too much.
Never say never though.Smilie

Buying this and oneechanbara R! Hell yes! And believe me if nintendo fucks with it threw updates I\'ll have to shove my foot up there and buy a PS3 (which I\'m doing anyway but I\'ll do it at an earlier date if nintendo fucks with it.)

well I will get this so I can once again play my US gamecube games on my PAL wii. I do hope they dont update it and screw us over.

Tempted to try and get brawl from the US but I think I will wait and see if it is known to work first.

Time to Brawl!

Here's something I just found on N-europe from one of its members that is very reassuring;

THIS IS FOR PEOPLE WORRIED ABOUT SYSTEM UPDATES:

I ordered the GameCube Freeloader from Codejunkies recently, as I have several decent US GC games that I still play (Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime etc) on the assurance that it 'Works with Wii!'

I bought it and it worked fine. I was happy... until Nintendo updated the system to disallow it. Bugger. I emailed Codejunkies to tell them about this, as they were still proclaiming 'works with Wii'.

They emailed me back and told me they'd now updated the Freeloader, so now THEY had overridden the update! They asked me to send back my current Freeloader, and for free they sent me the new version which still works perfectly!

Sort version - if Nintendo updates to get rid of it, Codejunkies will update their discs themselves and they'll send you one for the price of postage. They're great, guys!
_______________

Sounds good as potential backup. Anyone else with blocked GC freeloaders looked into this?
Smilie

That is reassuring indeed, I'll also finally be able to play Bomberman Jetters on my Wii, instead of having to set up the GC all the time.

Also, people worried about money, it's only 9.99, that's way cheaper than the GC freeloader back in the day Smilie I think it's a great deal. I can't believe I was just about to buy a Japanese Wii Smilie

I very much doubt it would mess up your Wii, have you ever used a Freeloader on GC before? It works a treat! Smilie It\'s nothing like modding your Wii.

But for now I agree. When I get Brawl + my Freeloader, I\'ll give opinions on how well it works ^^

Wont break the Wii if you read properly, ubt could get locked out. Seems worth it, especially if CodeJunkies replace locked discs for basically free.

I like the idea, but hate importing, too much spyware on my PC to even enter the first few digits of a credit card/bank number.

You might want to try eBay around Brawl's US release. Thats where I got my NTSC copy of YuGiOh 2008, and it works a treat.Smilie
