Update - The latest Media Create software and hardware has now been released, showing that Yakuza on PS3 has claimed the top spot in terms of software, whilst Wii continues to reign supreme in the hardware stakes. Check out all the numbers below:
Media Create Top 50:
Expect the next update tomorrow...
Original Story - The early Famitsu first day sales for various games have now been revealed by Japanese blogger sinobi (thanks to Gamefront.de for the translation). Check out the results below:
The question is, just how well can Metroid Prime 3 go on to sell? And just how will General Knowledge Training on Wii continue to sell? For comparison purposes, General Knowledge on DS sold 210,000 in its first week, whilst the first Metroid game on GameCube sold 39,000 in its week (for a 73,000 lifetime total) and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes did 17,000 to begin with, eventually tapping out at just 23,000 in total.

Original Story - The early Famitsu first day sales for various games have now been revealed by Japanese blogger sinobi (thanks to Gamefront.de for the translation). Check out the results below:
- Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan! (PS3, SEGA) - 113,000
- Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Wii, Nintendo) - 20,000
- Minna no Joushiki Ryoku TV (Wii, Nintendo) - 5,000 (<10% sell through, despite strong TV advertising)
- Guitar Hero III (PS2/PS3, Activision) - 3,000 (sold out in many stores)
- Family Jockey (Wii, Bandai Namco) - 2,500 (clearly not starting anywhere near as well as Family Ski)
The question is, just how well can Metroid Prime 3 go on to sell? And just how will General Knowledge Training on Wii continue to sell? Do we have any information about Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan! for the PS3? That seems to be a pretty strong first day for a PS3 title.
Update: Nevermind, it is the new Yakuza game. Good for SEGA! They don't seem to do well in Japan.( Edited 07.03.2008 16:50 by Robertd1138 )

Just why on earth doesn't Metroid do so well in Japan?
I'm glad Nintendo have always taken into account the fact that Metroid has always done great in Europe and North America and continued to develop the franchise though.
It's just such a shame to see such a fantastic gaming series not do so well over there. We're all humans - surely our opinions of games aren't THAT different that most Japanese don't like non-linear exploration games in the form of Metroid? Metroid is sheer brilliance in every game that has been created for the series.

And wow a casual game doing bad!?

I like the look of that Yakuza game, it has modelled itself on Shenmue a touch. Lets hope Metroid3 does well eventually, it would mean a mess in all regions if it does do bad. When I mean mess I mean the promotion of the game.

Well, despite Prime 3 being an absolutely exceptional, mind blowing game
, I can't see Prime 3 selling very well in Japan because of the type Prime 3 is. FPSs (or in this case, FPAs
) are typically not a popular over there.
What's truly surprising, is that MP3 hasn't been far more successful in Europe and the States. It's such a damn incredible game.

I think Super Metroid and the original NES game both did very well...but others bombed, including the excellent GBA duo

It's not even going to reach half a million is it...that's just so terrible and Mario Party 8 is selling so well.

Japanese gamers should give Prime 3 a try. I mean, it's not your typical FPS. I don't like FPSs in general, but still enjoyed the Prime games.

Oh well, japanese gamers have their opinions on games and we can't change that, such a shame.

(imo) prime 3 is the worst of metroids short, too linear and a shitty ending.
ZeroSimon Reply Quote #17
Its not Japanese gamers' taste in games...but rather they get motion sickness in FPS style games....seriously WTF.

I never understood how "too liner" is a problem.
Whats a problem is if your
a) stuck on one bit and have nothing to do
b) game is too repedative
c) too much backtracking.
The last metroid had none of these and a freedom of exploration still just fine.
The fact that key plot things had to be done mostly in an order I dont see as a bother at all.
Zelda dungoens also, with rare exceptions, have to be done in order too.

Shit Metroid didn't do too bad actually. I know that Japan isn't usually into FPS.
